James Horner borrowed one of the leitmotifs from this composition for the "Battle Of The Mutara Nebula" opus from his score for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

The Lyrics: "Peregrinus expectavi, pedes meos in cymbalis" perhaps interpreted as: "Foreigners we come, the land is clanging (like cymbals) under our feet" (allusion to the ice cracking beneath their feet)-- but it is also possible that this is a nonsense phrase, strung together from several psalms, the same psalms selected by Igor Stravinsky, who wrote The Symphony of Psalms in 1930, whom Prokofiev was mocking.

Bravo, Geoff. A terrific performance of a beautiful piece by the incredible, but under appreciated composer. If I recall correctly, that was on the C clarinet.

Beautiful playing everyone! But does anyone know why the composer used the feminine version of "Parisien" by adding the "ne", when the noun "Quatuor" is actually masculine? Sorry to be a "grammar police", but if there's a reason for that, I'd really love to hear it! Right now it just grates against my early Francophone education....

This is so good. Not accurate but a good watch. Fact is, the tutonic knights were less in number but inflicted heavy casualties none the less and both sides suffered huge losses in this battle. The Novgorod’s just used their environment better. Most of the Germans escaped.

Sorry, but this clunky video edit cut some of Eisenstein’s best shots. And again, the 1938 film forecast what was to come. It was not a response to Nazi invasion.

Alexander beat the grand master because he was young himself. He was only 22 years old. As the Russian chronicles write, Alexander was strong in body, handsome in face (noble), and had a thunderous voice. That's why everyone followed him.And when he died, he mourned the whole of mother Russia.
