Sorry for getting to this so late, but I just got a Cub Super 12 combo, and I'm considering a few swaps. Like some of the other posters have suggested, I too prefer the 12AT and 12AY to the 12AU (the 12AX is a bit too aggressive for my taste). I have a tiny stash of NOS tubes, and I'm considering either a 5751 or a 12AT (actually a Mullard 4024, which is a milspec version) in V1 and potentially a 12AT in V3 (I assume it's the PI). The only problem with the Laney combo is that pulling out the chassis is a bit of a chore.
@andrasthebutcher26 күн бұрын
If I remember correctly, you dont need to pull out the chassis, you just remove the back panel. It should be an easy replacement of tubes.
@srinip26 күн бұрын
@@andrasthebutcher That is probably true of the head that you have/had. The combo is more tightly packed, and you do have to pull out the chassis. I actually did replace the preamp tubes with an AY in V1, an ECC83 in V2 and a 4024 in V3 (AY, AX and AT, if you will), and I could not be happier. It's a different amp now, a lot cleaner and sweeter and responds differently. Thanks for the video - it was a big help in deciding!

WOW András, I thought you were going to leave without playing a demo, then you lay down an awesome groove. Bravo, well done!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!! I've seen many reviews of this guitar and haven't seen even one negative one. I've ordered one of these and it should be arriving any day now. There's an advertised 11 to 13 week wait for these so I went ahead and ordered a B-Stock for 30€ less. I have total confidence in Thomann B-Stock products. If all companies operated like Thomann and treated their customers with the same respect that Thomann does, the world would be a better place.

Thanks for nice review. I'm learning November Rain solos on my Fender Squier and finally found a reason to buy a new guitar that is Les Paul-style to match the music :). Do you think I can get the november rain sound from this guitar and its pickups or should I pick another Harley Benton, like 550 (emg)? I see you also reviewed the 550 EMG, which one did you like more?
@andrasthebutcher Жыл бұрын
I assume you speak Hungarian, so I reply in Hungarian. Ay SC custom nagyon jó gitár és szerettem rajta játszani, de egy idő után eladtam. Szerintem az 550 SC jobb választás, igazi les paul hangzás és az EMG hangszedők nagyon jók.

Hi Benjamin, yes it does. It works and sounds just like any other guitar amp. This is a class D power amp, this type of output can generate the same amount of output power as a tube amp.

You right pick up is not the best but P90 is a single coil so normally these are noise, so you maybe can improve the sound with another better P90 although tou should considered replece the pots before the pickup, anyway if you do not wanna noise from the ickup maybe a mod to a humbucker is what you need :)

I am falling more and more in love with this guitar. I’ve never owned an active pickup guitar before, but this has me interested. I will say that I love and am drawn to the sunburst and top more than the pickups. I wanted a Gibson in that color, but the price is WAY too inhibitive for my home guitarist budget. Once I have the funds and softened my girlfriend to the idea of adding another guitar to the family, I’ll pick one up!

I wouldn't put a 12AU7 tube to a 12AX7 socket. Too much difference in voltage gain that amp would not work properly. 12AY7 maximum if you find it similar price to 12AT7. Otherwise 20 gain factor is negligible.
@geekPlayground Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the comparison. It was quite useful. I liked both 12AT7 and 12AY7. 12AX7 - too much gain ; 12AU7 - too quiet

Thanks for putting this up. For me the amp responds will to a treble bleed in the guitar. Let's me lower the dirt by rolling back the guitars volume while using a higher pre setting on the amp. Typically less than 5.8 on the pre. Mine responded well to a 5751 tube in the v2 spot for my purposes and super low pre settings.

I´m sorry to disappoint your expectations. There are bunch of videos out with bridge pickup, you can definitely find one which you like. Imagine a video where I would have everything people want to hear about this amp, it would be a 1 hour long, meaningless. I usually don´t use bridge for riffs, only for solos.

Interesting thanks! So, couldn't one basically get the same effect by reducing the volume on the guitar (Less gain and darker). Seems to me like that is basically the same thing. Increase the headroom by reducing the input gain?
