Great pipe! I think your lathe needs a bearing or two.....

Are you using a bench grinder for this?

Gorgeous pipe. Exactly the shape I want. I'm a new pipe smoker and so far only own MM corn cobs and an estate Orlik lovat. All nice pipes, but a classic bulldog will be my next buy.

Thank you for your videos. I indeed prefer acrylic, when you have many pipes I want them ready to use and sometimes cleaning the oxidation of the vulcanite is not fun. I used 11,000 Festool compound to shine both, after 5-7000 sand paper.

I am from the Philippines. If I order on-line here, the local on-line. I get not a good quality. How do I order from you? I wanted to give to someone as gifts.

Very nice video. Thank you for sharing. I have a few lacquer finished pipes. Do you think are they safe to use? Won't the lacquer leak through into the bowl from the outside?

Hi Jeff, I have a question for you, at minute 0.48 how do you center the air hole perfectly in the mortise? Also how do you make that groove at the beginning of the mortise to fit the 4mm bit through? I will be very grateful if you answer me 😊

That's brilliant well done, you know I'm pleasantly surprised to see people like yourself making briar pipes. It brings back memories of when i was barely a teenager back in the early 1960's, when every week day after school went to work at a briar pipe makers. Although i didn't get to go through the whole process which was very interesting and fun, i did learn the staining process and polishing. The stain was made up in our factory from powder in different colours like walnut, cherry. etc and mixed with methylated spirits which i believe you can still get today. The process involved using a lighted candle and rack made from wood with a couple of dozen nails in, and pot containing the made up stain the bowl of the pipe was dipped in the stain and the surplus was tipped out. It was then held over the candle to burn off then placed on the rack until the rack was full. Once the rack was full it was passed to the person on the polishing machine to polish both the bowl to bring out the grain and colour and the stem marks. I won't go on much more only to tell there were several more stages till you end up with the finished product. There you are just a little insight in to how it was done over sixty years ago. The pipe makers Holdens Briar Pipes which no longer exists was in a place called Crouch End near the clocktower in North London if you wish to take a look on Google Earth.

I'd love to know more about this motor set up at the beginning of the video. I just acquired a 1/3 motor, but it's 220v, and I don't have a free outlet to run it on. Looks like you've wired your own variable supply to it?
