A V8 powered AMC Gremlin is pretty rare. Do not, i repeat, DO NOT LS swap it!! The car's original 304 V8 has some performance potential. Al; it needs is a 4 barrel carb and intake, long tube headers and dual exhaust. That's all it needs. Keep the rest of it original. Do not restomod it!

I have some questions on this swap as far as are you using the stock truck flex plate? Couldn't you have used a Corvette oil pan from a newer Corvette?
@TuquesNTires4 күн бұрын
We’re using a truck dish flex plate with a crank adapter. I’m sure a corvette oil pan would work but we just used what we had.

Hey, so on the back there 295/50/15 on a 15x10 with a 2” offset, the front is a 215/65/15 on a 15x7 with a 3 1/2” offset. It has a nova front clip and a 2000 era blazer rear end to make it all fit.

so cool , in the 80s my buddy had a Gremlin with a 360 stuffed in it ... big fan of Monza's . Mavericks & Gremlins .... the 70s underdogs always wanted to stuff a 302 Chev in a Vega or Monza
@desertrat7716 күн бұрын
C’mon, leave the original motor in it! Then hop it up the way they would’ve back in the day. I’m sure it’s carbureted, so put a high performance intake and better 4 bbl on it. Headers, dual exhaust, just like they would’ve back when. Go ahead and put an electronic ignition on it. Then just fix up other little things as needed. Cool wheels and tires, keeping the 70s legacy, and you’ve got something stellar.

@markhagge864616 күн бұрын
Keep the car as stock as possible to preserve it's value. Don't butcher it by putting some other non-AMC engine in it. Go buy an old Chevy or Mopar for that. Gremlins are pretty rare now and a '73 in good shape like yours is pretty valuable.

That was my wife's first car I have been trying to find one in order to completely restore it. I also remember a neighbor friend bought a purple one when I was a kid I was so envious of him. LOL
@timjefferson213716 күн бұрын
IF you engine swap it, please consider these two suggestions: 1: Don't cut it up, and keep all of the original parts so that it might be restored later. 2: Check out Dead Dodge Garage's cheap smog-era iron head 360 build that more or less* pulls wheelies in his relatively stock '71 Demon body. Gen 3 hemis and LS motors are becoming kind of overplayed IMO and I don't entirely disagree with commenters in favor of keeping it stock. *I think he got one wheel off the ground once. It'd definitely yank 'em both in the Gremlin.

You have to keep the 304 in it. With the right aftermarket engine parts, you can get well over 300 H.P out of the 304.

There was an old magazine article back in the 70s where they put an overdrive transmission behind the 304 and got decent MPG (25+ iirc). I love it stock, tbh. With the right rear end ratio and mybe a 5 speed trans if you feel you *have* to change stuff. For the love of all that is good in this universe, do not put an LS or even modern hemi in it. 😝 If you want power, any similar vintage AMC V8 is a cinch to change it to (e.g. 360 or 401). Feel free to ead over to the AMC forum website to discuss (can't post web link because KZbin 🙃)

Please just let it be! Or bore it out to a 360 or 401 all the same block. Don't hack it up, you are super lucky just to get it especially with the V8.
@meltysquirrel291917 күн бұрын
You can't just bore out a 304 to the larger sizes. However the bigger sizes will physically fit as externally they are the same. Importantly, the car has the V8 crossmember som it is pretty much bolt it in. 🤠

I owned a black/black 1972 Gremlin X 304ci V8 with the 3 speed standard transmission and true duel exhaust. I absolutely loved it. With 15x8 rear and 14x7 front aluminum slot wheels it had a really nice stance. It ran super smooth and was ultra reliable. I miss it.

If I were you and I this car, I would get a Chrysler 360 motor and slap a set of 340 High compression heads on it. Then back all that up with a 918 Torqueflite transmission and you have a BULLETPROOF drive train that you can take everywhere and anywhere. Parts for the 318, 340 and 360 are all interchangeable and you can find parts for it anywhere.

Seller was probably not sketchy ......... just what happens to sellers that have been beat up by the typical Kijiji inquirers making insulting offers and comments. Gremlin X looks like a rare score that went to a good home. I am sure the seller is thrilled that you guys appreciate the vehicle as much as their family did. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

The videos cool. I'm very passionate about old cars. There aren't a lot of these things left, not a lot of gremlins left and certainly not a lot with a v8. You have a sweet ride there. Hot rod it with an aluminum intake, four barrel, headers, side pipes, big tires in the back and rip that thing around just the way it is, or just drive it. Tons of potential there for a sweet sweet ride. Good luck man, and most important, have fun! But keep it the way it is. You'll be happy you did

304 was a great motor, the auto was more common than the stick which would have been really nice. I think it’s a torque flight 727. DO NOT put a stupid hemi in there nor the LS. AMC had a 401 for the Javelin and Rebel amongst others, seek and you may find.
