That’s awful. We were blessed to not have more than a couple trees down in areas that didn’t affect fencing or buildings. Lots of people had really bad damages.

good horsemanship. taking it slow and rewarding the horse. we need to demoralize just getting on a horse and letting them “buck it out” that’s how you get a coldback horse who only responds out of fear.

I love it when this is what a first ride looks like. No stress on the horse 😁. I do have a quick question: whats the point of using a bunch of tack for a first ride? Sorry if I sound dumb but I ride English and we normally start with just a simple bridle and a saddle (saddle pad too ofc)

@@Mossy_HH people use different types of equipment. My trainer had gotten her used to carrying a snaffle bit, but he also had the bosalita with mecate reins as the main reins. If she did anything that needed him to take control then the pressure would have mostly been from the bosalita and not so much the snaffle. As far as the rest of the tack… she’s a western horse and why not get them used to everything from the beginning? Thank you for the question ! I love it! I’m sure lots of people wonder the same thing.

@@albatraozgirl Flywheel came from a trainer in a makeover. So he was started by a trainer. Prize will go to my trainer for saddle starting but I’ve done all the gentling, ground work and everything up to backing her. Rose was gentled by myself and I had my trainer do the saddle starting and first 60 days. I do get weekly lessons on training and am learning a lot on how to train them. You know every interaction you are training them, good or bad.

@@BellyChartier no I don’t. It’s a private ranch that you have to have a membership to go ride on it. It’s a gorgeous place and we are blessed to be able to ride there.

@@lisacoffeymustangs39 It's so pretty and the water must be good for teaching horses to go in it. We have some power line trails next to our house. But I mostly ride the roads it's so nice in the early morning truly beautiful. And I do some slower barral racing and sit a buck too. It was very fun once I was in the areana but I was terrified going in and being in front of a crowd. Once I had to do lead changes and stuff like that I couldn't do it anymore I don't know much of that stuff and my moms horse is gaited so I can't post her trot thing I don't even know what to call it 😂 but what you do looks super amazing and looks like it would be very fun and challenging. What do you call it?

@@BellyChartier I do Extreme Cowboy Racing as my sport. But I’ve shown in ranch horse shows, mainly local church ran events. Also I go to clinics put on by different trainers. I started doing obstacle events locally before I discovered EXCA.

I'm having some trouble with my other mustang I've had her for a year and I haven't gotten very far with her. I can't ride her yet I had her to the point where she was comfortable with the saddle and me sitting in it and moving around I asked her for our first steps and she got scares and launched me so now we're both a bit terrified of sitting in the saddle. I'm not to sure what to do now but you have been a big inspiration thank you!

@@BellyChartierI have a friend who is a professional trainer. I had him help saddle start Rose. I will have him start Prize under saddle also. I highly recommend getting a professional that you know and trust to help you and your horse get past this. Believe me I’ve been there.

The obstacle is actually 1/2 a Daisy chain. I’m just so proud of Flywheel getting the lead changes. A couple are a little late but that last one was wow! We will continue working to get it smoother. Also I was watching Tim Anderson the other day and I’m going to start working toward one handed riding and use my non dominant hand we are working toward more softness in the face which means my hands.

@@EdwinSemidey I’ll be honest. I had to look up what you were referring to. I’ve been busy with work and family and not paid attention to the political front. We live in an area that wasn’t hit hard by the hurricane but I have friends and family that live in the Houston area. Some of them have just gotten their power back and others are still without. We had been without power for several days a month or so ago when a giant storm system took out the power in the Tyler/Lindale area.
