My cichlids do this quite a bit. All appear otherwise healthy and active. I treated them a month ago for bacterial/parasite infection not even due to this, but because I was concerned about a skin infection on one of the big fish. They were doing the "flashing" before, they are still doing it a month later once or twice a day a month later even after doing numerous 50% water changes and having a internal sump running with lots of live plants. Since I haven't lost a single fish (except a Cory who got himself stuck in the filter intake overnight) I am guessing this is mostly them scratching itches they might have.

Anyone fighting fin rot, there is a cure that is safe for snails and and scale less catfish. It is easy, and I have finally found a cure that works . The video is called "How to cure fin rot the easy way". I give dmichaels an A for effort, and I watched all his videos first. Anyway I hope D doesn't mind me sharing this info, it is about saving fish. , right? There she suggests a precursor water change. Not a drastic one. Doses with 2 medications ( not these listed), but erythromycin ( Maricin) ,and Ich X, each sold on Aquarium coop site ( my first ever purchase there). Wait one week without ,feeding. Then do a water change and that's it! I was amazed, his fins were growing back in 3 days! I have to say It is the best combo, I have ever used for this. Both medications total, ran around 25$ I received it in 2 days. I have to admit I am shocked that this worked as well as it did. Its only been one week, and his fin looks nearly complete, he also had a whitish film over his eyes and this is gone too. Smokey will live a happy and beautiful life yay! My biggest concern were my inverts and scaleless fish, who do not tolerate medication well. They are now more active than ever! I did take Dmicheals advice, and removed a pretty piece of coral ,and a shell that has deteriorated and became sharp. Thanks for that tip! My fish had swim bladder problems because of bloating and gulpers that like to gorge. Most probably won’t agree with this method but it’s a little old school and works. I pulled Willie out and put him in a glass bowl. Put the bowl in a spot so he couldn’t see me come in the room. Grabbed a metal spoon, snuck up on him and wacked the glass a few times and scared the 💩 right out of him. 😏 He was happy and back to wiggling just fine. Put him back in with his buddies and he relieved himself in peace and not bloated anymore.. Oh this method works superb on skittish fish like a pro.. Js

Forget about the male and female the fact that you got betta and sparkling gourami in the same tank is incredible

Does this Jungle and the KanaPlex hurt plants?

I bought 20 juvies for 4 aquariums to reduce BBA. No improvement. Excel and hydrogen peroxide caused my anubias to die back. Focusing on the root cause now which is phosphates. Water changes, DIY plant fertilizers, and phosphate reducing resins. Note: my tanks are 55-340 gallons and the siamese algae eaters cannot keep up with BBA in larger aquariums.

How safe is this fert for neocaridina? Their website says it's safe but they seem to really stress about big water changes. Sometimes life happens and I can't do weekly w/c.. opinion?

My tank includes Clawed African Dwarf Frogs with my other fish/snails. Is this safe for the froggies? Thanks.

Can you use it while having activated charcoal in your filter?

I understand that you don't want to flood your aquarium with Ammonia, but I think you may be over reacting just a bit here. 1) you are not supposed to "wash" ADA Aquasoil. Every time you do, you are washing away nutrients and thereby flushing your money down the drain. 2) The relatively high amount of soil and the relatively low amount of water in your bucket are making your ammonia levels in the bucket water WAY higher than it will be in your aquarium when adding a small amount of soil in the corner. 3) Your bucket water has no beneficial bacteria to get rid of ammonia like your aquarium does. 4) While adding a large amount of ADA Aquasoil to a functioning tank with livestock IS a bad idea because of the likely Ammonia spike. Adding a small amount in a corner as you did will likely not be a problem. 5) Also, make life easier on yourself and cover the plant root with a rock to keep fish from re-exposing the plant root. Otherwise this will keep happening. :)

Got 2 new female bettas to be tank mates with my other female betta. The next day, my first betta and one of the new ones got their tails shredded. I put the bully betta in a temporary small tank until we can fully set up our newer (yet used) larger tank and put in a bunch of plants for them to hide in. We had more bettas before that are from individual cups before, so we didnt expect this. The 2 bettas do get chased, but we put in a little hiding plafe for one to get inbif they get harrassed.

Yeah my fighter was sick so I put it in a floating basket in the morning about 10 assassin snails were on the floating basket when I checked fighter was dead and already one assassin snail was eating him from the bottom of the floating basket. Otherwise, u rarely see them always hiding in the substrate.

Pollyfill pillow stuffing is much cheaper and does a better job than those poly filters from aquarium co op. I can get a 5 gallon bucket size bag of it for $6 and it will last me a couple years. I am slowly learning that the products from aquarium co op are garbage and thats why they are so cheap.

I've had this in my tank for 2 years already, but my aqua started to have cyanobacteria and I have never vacuumed the soil. I think it could be a reason. How can you do that? I noticed that anytime I wash some handful of soil in a bucket, it gets messy the same way as they disintegrate. 1. Is it still ok to use the soil after this long? 2. Is vacuuming okay? Thanks.
