We experimented with the longer episode format for a long form JRPG/Adventure. We do hope to find time for another.

@jordansquared5 ай бұрын
@@ianlauer9283 Yes, I noticed as I was doing some grinding that the cost got incremental for each 100 atk/def the monster had, though the cost was the same for a 1600atk monster as a 1600ft monster with only say 800 atk; always based on the highest stat that monster. Funnily this made JIrai Gumo the most expensive card in the game.

Have you not figured out any special attacks? This is the point in the game where it gets really hard if you don't find at least one or two of the less obvious powers you have access to. Just jumping and attacking in the inverted clock tower is a recipe for frustration.
@jordansquared11 ай бұрын
I had figured out a couple of the spells but I kept forgetting they were in my arsenal of options. Easy thing to do when the frustration level is tilting that high. Ultimately a moot point though.

Poison mist through the area. Way safer and you can still activate the switches. Shield rod is too slow to attack around here.

One thing that helped me a lot was the Summon Spirit spell. Its a good ranged option that you can spam from a safe distance while having the enemy on screen. You just hit < > ^ v Attack and it summons a small homing projectile. I think it'll really help on enemies that hold a constant damaging hitbox against Alucard
@jordansquared Жыл бұрын
Also nifty

I decided to do another playthrough of SotN after watching a bunch of these. Some of the things shown here actually helped me out, like the early Jewel Knuckles, and that you can cast the spells without needed the spell info from the shop. One spell, Soul Steal, was actually super useful. I even found a great early EXP farming spot. If you remember the chapel with the giant staircase, and the metal spike ball at the top? If you get above it and crouch on the slope to its right, you can hold down the attack button with Jewel Knuckles, and it auto spams punch until the ball dies like 10 seconds later. Was way more EXP than any non-boss I had killed by that point
@jordansquared Жыл бұрын
Is that so? Unfortunately I may be well past the point where that mattered in our recording but still, useful for the future!
@henzukaya9802 Жыл бұрын
Jordy hasn't mentioned yet? You should be able to use Dark Metamorphosis to heal off of the Medusa Heads. It's only 8 each hit, but since they respawn infinitely, should be a good way to keep yourself topped up

When I first played Symphony of the Night, which was about a year ago actually, THIS was the part I got stuck at for the longest time and had to look up a guide. Here's hoping you don't have to spend anywhere near as long as I did on something I wasn't even made aware of was a mechanic for a singular room. Still, it seems like exploring and levelling up will do you some good. Will you be stopping SotN once October is over or keep going til you finish it?
@jordansquared Жыл бұрын
We originally recorded enough to get to Halloween, but then Jordy noted how close I was to the halfway/bad end point so we decided to keep going.
@henzukaya9802 Жыл бұрын
I don't know how much backseat gaming you're in for or against, but I figured you'd at least want to know about shields. Shields don't block melee damage whatsoever; they're instead used to negate most projectiles. I think outside of certain things like lightning, shields will protect against any ranged attacks against you, while having a shield equipped, but not necessarily out, will increase your overall defenses. There's also a Dark Shield that will do damage on contact which I find personally fantastic against bats, ravens, medusa heads. Dark Shield allows you to just ram into stuff with next to no health

Information that could have been useful to me as we were recording, but alas. Maybe it will come in handy later.

I had the good fortune of playing Symphony of the Night on an emulator with save states. I never realized how bullshit the base game was, with far gaps between save points, movement getting locked up once you take a little bit of damage, the stunlock juggling, infinitely respawning enemies... Hopefully it doesn't become too huge a hurdle for ya
