Dear Aisyah, there is a serious group that studies Prof Naquib al-Attas here in Malaysia. We are joined by Indonesian friends, friends in the UK, and Yamen. We read the work of Prof al-Attas everyday/every week. It helps in having a clear and precise understanding of big ideas of our tradition, perhaps this potentially be your interest too.

I echo the fard ayn and fard kifayah. There’s one podcast I once listened to that said if we use the shahada as the example, the ummah today has shifted focus, not on the first kalimah (bear witness on One God), but the second one (Muhammad is the last Messenger), meaning social justice, engagement, participations, protests and so on forgetting our individual obligation.

I hardly ever find Indonesians who advocate for the thoughts of Syed Naquib al-Attas, except for people from INSISTS or Sekolah Pemikiran Islam. As a philosopher, his ideas are totally worth sharing with more people as solutions to many issues. I’m glad to have found your channel; may happiness always be with you.

The book also highlights the dillema and “the loss of adab” crisis in the Muslim world, which I did not manage to cover. If you want part 2 of it, you tell me. Otherwise you can purchase/borrow the book to read it yourself :D
