You think it was fine they made it Galadriel's fault the Sauron got the nine and can in future enslave the humans with them? Turning their greatest into living undead? Especially after Celebrimbor died to protect those very rings and she promised him at his death bed to protect them? And then at the first opportunity she just hands them over with a "whatever" attitude? and later never even wastes even a thought on them?
@thewhitecitypodcast15 күн бұрын
I think that's a good point. I'm not so sure I liked how she took them into her care in the end. She should've been more conspicuous of them. I wouldn't say that the show made it her fault. She wasn't just willy nilly about it. Something I've wondered recently is if the Elves ever thought to destroy the 7 and the 9 (in lore).

@thewhitecitypodcastАй бұрын
@NuanceOverDogma 🤣 ROP is far from an amazing show, but I'm also not just gonna bash because I can. There are good moments in the show that people won't admit to: Sauron and Celebrimbor, Disa and Durin IV. Galadriel is probably too serious and the harfoots unnecessary. What are your reasons for calling it embarrassingly bad?
@NuanceOverDogmaАй бұрын
The who show is a betrayal. Lazy writing with Reddit level fan fiction

Is this satire? Because the cringe dialogue is hilarious. For a channel pretending to compare Tolkiens work with Rings of Power while completely ignoring how they drastically differ made me chuckle.

Can you see any similarities between the show and Tolkien's work?
@NuanceOverDogmaАй бұрын
lol, everyone in the show is an idiot. So Sauron has special powers when it’s convenient to the plot. Embarrassingly bad review.
@thewhitecitypodcast25 күн бұрын
Saying that 'everyone in the show is an idiot' sounds like a personal gripe, so anyone could have any reason to like or not like the show and what's the problem with that?
@aggulvarАй бұрын
That's nonsense. Tolkien's whole thesis is that while good cannot always triumph over evil, evil will always consume itself. While Frodo's goodness is what brought the Ring to Mt. Doom, it was the evil within Gollum that ultimately caused it's destruction.
@thewhitecitypodcastАй бұрын
I'd have to disagree. In the end evil is ultimately destroyed by good. Anyone who came to Mount Doom bearing the One Ring could never destroy it because they were extremely susceptible to the Ring's effect. This is a part of Tolkien's worldview that there is something greater at play in Middle-earth (and our world) than Gollum. The only reason the ring was destroyed was without intention. In multiple occasions, Tolkien talks about Illuvatar's hand in things (though indirectly) and Gollum's death and the destruction of the One Ring is a great example of that. Also, in any situation where you have multiple evil forces, the most powerful force (Morgoth or Sauron) dominates because there's no hope for evil but to join. Any idea in overcoming the most powerful one to gain power never works (i.e. Saruman). I would agree that the good people of Middle-earth don't always overcome evil, but that is where an even stronger power has a role to play. Think of the Valar imprisoning Morgoth.
@aggulvarАй бұрын
@thewhitecitypodcast I'd agree that Tolkien is against using power to combat evil, as that tends to turn into an evil in itself (Saruman, Numenor etc.). And yes, Gollum seems to get a push by Eru, and that there are greater forces guiding things. That being said, evil in Tolkien IS self-destructive, and usually brings about it's own downfall in one way or another. Ungoliant consumes herself, Morgoth's fear and ambition weakens him to the point of being the least powerful of the greater Ainur where he had once been the strongest, the oath taken by Fëanors sons only ever leads to tragedy, the evil of the Ring is a driving factor in it's unmaking and so on.
@thewhitecitypodcastАй бұрын
@@aggulvar I see what you're saying. But in the end the ultimate destruction of evil is done by someone greater than any creature on Middle-earth. Good triumphs in the end. I don't know much about the end times of Middle-earth but there's a great show down and the good side wins.🤙

About Tom Bombadil and the Maia theory. The Maiar was: "These are the Maiar, the people of the Valar, and their servants and helpers" -Sil TB does not seem to be a servant of the Valar. He is more like a spirit and we have many many quotes of spirits coming in "before the world". I can quote you some if you want.

I'm halfway through the video and I now understood what you meant. Most videos that express a dislike towards the show also sprinkle other political topics into their discussion. This discussion video solely focuses on the lore accuracy and the logic of the plot. Also, good analysis on character.

I’m confused, LOTR is easily the most packed lore story there is so a lack of lore is a legitimate problem. Bad story writing is never permissible. It sounds like you already said everything that is needed.

«Albert argues that Tolkien didn't realize he was writing on true stories.» I've had that idea before (that his writings are actually "received knowledge" he thought he was writing as fiction), and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had that idea. I'm not saying I think that's literally true (that Middle-earth is factual prehistory, and the stories of the Silmarillion are the actual myths of that world), but that's the way I like to think of it.
