Chapeau - that looks just absolutely merciless. I can only imagine the emotions having completed a famous climb like that. (great choice of music btw!)

Early in the season yet a great atmosphere between the snow walls. The marmots seemed still pretty sleepy. 😎

Nice, bear in mind the avalanche risk before the road is opened.

Hey Russ! Well done... But why weren't there more cyclists around? You seemed to be the only ones!
@RussellStandring6 ай бұрын
Not many around but also between seasons in the Alps. Skiers have left and summer tourism hasn't yet started.

I always love coming back to this video. The effort ascending, the beauty and contrasts of the mountain, the iconic weather station gradually coming into view and the wonderful Orbital music which seems so appropriate for this ascent.

I wonder how you ,managed to replenish your food and drinks during the tour ? Could you kindly describe ? I would like to do,it again after almost failing on 3rd July this year. I feel I could do it better at least without cramps if riding and nourishing more intelligent than last time.
@standringr382 жыл бұрын
Hi FlyingVie, I took a little backpack with some sandwiches and energy bars and gels. I ate the sandwiches at the foot of the Col du Telegraphe, and ate the bars when I started to feel a little hungry. I kept hydrated all the time and filled bottles in St Sorlin, St-Michel-de-Maurienne and just above Valloire. I've also cycled this route a few times so it's easier to be mentally ready for what's coming around the next corner. And, I didn't rush, but just tried to manage my legs. I was really tired on Alpe d'Huez, but I was sure I could make it around, even on a bike from 2004.

Thanks for the upload. As usual well worth watching! You must have done the Alpe d'Huez a hundred times by now... and you don't use hand-held camera any longer :-) What recording equipment do you use now?
@standringr383 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm using a GoPro 7 black attached to the handlebars with the standard GoPro mount. I looked at the GoPro 8 but couldn't see much difference in the quality from the 7 to the 8. And yes, I've cycled the Alpe d'Huez a few times now, less than 100, but more than 50.

Russell Standring, After recently having your FIRST CLASS footage pointed out to me by a good friend of mine, I am watching it yet again, as it evokes such strong memories of having done this ourselves in June 2012 to enable Chris Wright (who thankfully involved me) to fulfill a personal goal to have cycled the Alpe d' Huez prior to his 50th. The overwhelming feeling of being totally, physically absorbed in such stunning surroundings, allied to my own sense of personal achievement ticked so many personal boxes for myself, and is something I never want to forget. The soundtrack/lyrics are also bang on for this footage. (just down loaded it!!!)
