I got two uv5rs, and neither of them has ever picked up anything in the two years I've had them. They are jailbroken/programmed whatever you wanna call it. Just never heard anything. Now I've also been told nobody uses any of the bands around where I live, so I ordered one of these last night. Hopefully I can get it to pick up something, if not I guess I'll quit being weird and just use my cell phone like a normal person.

Are you setting your frequencies or just randomly listening on various frequencies? Most frequencies you probably will never hear a thing...learn how to program in your local repeaters with a programming cable and CHIRP software. If you have the FRS and GMRS frequencies unlocked, program them in as well. There are also GMRS repeaters in areas that are often pretty active (you technically need a GMRS license to transmit on the GMRS channels, no license needed on FRS channels). You should find some people talking that way unless you're too far out of range. If you have a local ham radio club, attend a meeting and they will often assist new folks in using their radios.

Hi! On dual display can i listen on vhf and transmit on uhf? Thanks!

Yaesu has lost their way with the latest FTM UHF/VHF radios. I still have my ft-8800 and it is far and away a much better radio (yeah I know, no digital) In this modern era of much more powerful processors and color displays, these radios should all still have memory banks and also the hyper memory keys that make scanning and changing radio channels so easy! Very sad!!

Interesting, making custom scan lists. But why not use the M-GRP function (in ADMS-12 also) to do this? It is fairly easy to add a half dozen channels from the front panel. See page 38 in the manual. By the way, the new FTM-500 firmware allows saving up to 4 MEM (and 4 profile and 4 config) files on the SD card, restorable from the menu. Not memory groups but close. 73

This may be old news to you but the little tab you're pushing is the actual locking tab. If you look on the opposite end of the mount, there's an actual lever to depress, releasing that tab. However, it looks as though your mounting configuration may prevent access to the lever.

I see this is about 1 year old. Maybe you have discovered this already? 2 things: 1) You can change the items in the quick menu to other ones. 2) The long menu is organized by function groups. Using the up/down buttons on the mic will move you up by groups very quickly.

Best I've seen. Why? I'm a new ham setting up my station and I bought the nanoVNA H4 as the most economical SWR test device on the market for helping set up an antenna. I discovered, as many have, that it comes with no instructions whatsoever. I looked a t a few other videos before I found this one. Had this been first, I would have been happy. That said, I do plan to explore at least a few of the many capabilities the nanoVHA has.

Well i made à 2m antenna yesterday for the car. I used a standard swr and power meter.. Calibrated with a 50 ohm load . I adjusted for minimum swr. It works well.. I agree the nano vna provides more info. I do have one, but cannot get out of my old habits. Thanks for your time and info.

I’ve been using the NanoVNA for swr metering for a while now. I just don’t use it often enough to remember the simple manipulation every time even though it’s not that complicated… Your short video makes it easy to undestand and takes the complexity away from it. Good job ! It’s a great tool and I wish I could do more in the shack or in the car with it. Please post other tutorial that are amateur radio oriented for the NanoVNA.

the ability to have a bluetooth or USB keyboard, or even a phone app bluetoothed to the radio would be really nice for APRS messaging. It's no wonder a lot of people only see APRS as a tracking product since the radio mfgs don't give easy inputs for messaging or other APRS functions.

I would not call this a "missing" adapter problem. It would be unreasonable to expect every adapter that a user might need to be included with the device. It is incumbent upon the user to obtain the adapters/cables that you need beyond what is supplied just like virtually any other piece of test gear. These are very useful devices, not "cheap Chinese junk" as someone else wrote, unless you buy one of the poorly performing clones.

Haha - exactly my issue as well. Kind of boggles the mind honestly! We have multiple clubs around here. I'd love to have bank for each clubs (some of a band plan for emergency, simplex channels for simplex nets, different repeaters etc. Same with traveling. If I'm going camping I'd love to load 5-6 repeaters in while at home to a memory bank and then jump to that bank at the campsite and try them out.

Fail. Why I don't own a 400, 300, 200 or 500. Their ancient 2980 has memory banks as do the HTs. ID-5100 or older IC-2820 or IC-2730A do it all if you don't need/use C4FM. I asked Yaesu at Hamvention and they said some word salad about memory/software space. Really? The SD card is unlimited. Again total fail. It's a shame, I really wanted a 500 but doesn't work for base or mobile for me without memory banks.
