The way I installed the system has zero difference between being plugged into shore power and unplugged. The shore power, solar, and DC/DC charger are just power inputs to our battery bank; the inverter runs everything pulling from the battery bank.

My question is don’t you have to use a 48v to 12v converter? I saw a build using that to the eliminate original 12v Rv set up and only having the EG4 system
@Capt-John-T-Moore
@Capt-John-T-Moore 2 ай бұрын
I also want to be able to boondock and shore power applications either our Rv. I probably going to go with 4 batteries mounted under our bead and inverter in the pass through. The distribution box is in our bedroom. Short distances for our wiring. The issue for me. Is enough solar to meet 120v minimum input. I’m thinking 5-8 200 watt panels on the roof. I may go with higher wattage panels if zi can find a good placement diagram for my tt roof. I want room to walk on it and the added weight consideration
@JKFulltimeAdventures
@JKFulltimeAdventures 2 ай бұрын
You don't have to, but it is more efficient than having the original 120v to 12v RV converter. I have done builds both ways depending on the purpose and how they wanted to use the RV.
@JKFulltimeAdventures
@JKFulltimeAdventures 2 ай бұрын
Batteries and everything under the bed will add quite a bit of tongue weight, so be careful to not exceed that. Short distances are preferred but not as necessary with 48v wiring since it can be much smaller. Your panels will need 120v minimum. Don't forget that panels on an RV need to be setup for how you will camp. Meaning parallel if you will have shade or partial shade, Series if you will have no shade. Also it will depend on if your RV roof is curved or flat. Panels in series on a curved roof don't really work well at all if the string straddles the curve.
@Capt-John-T-Moore

How is the EG4 inverter holding up in that installation configuration? I'm also in a travel trailer where the batteries will be installed next to the converter on the wall. Any thermal issues? Any regrets in the configuration? The only difference I'm considering is stacking the batteries on top of one another so I might be able to fit a 3rd in my trailer.

We ended up going with a tire by the name of Sailum. They are actually a 14 Apply rating. Since then we've had absolutely no trouble. I experienced this two camping trips in a row last summer. Really does a number on the camper. My tires still looked brand new and my tire monitor didn't have time to warn me either. Just plopped down some cash on 4 new Goodyear endurances. Hope these are as good as they say they are. Going camping for the first time this season next weekend. Oh, and when i was rolling my tires into the shop, i noticed one had a broken belt. So im glad i didnt take the camper to the shop instead of pulling the tires off and taking them in separately.

With RVs space is a premium, so a single unit that takes less space is normally a better option. For the big 50amp RVs we have ended up using the Victron 48v Multiplus-II. You can choose between the 3000watt and the 5000watt unit depending on your needs. The EG4 6000 is just a really big unit for an RV physical size wise.
