LOL - the dude testing a microphone - you NEVER tap a microphone like that to test it. Goodness me!

good to see testing underway. will be interesting to see if there will be other brands of metro trains built or will they all be like this one by alstom?
@fictillius Жыл бұрын
The metro line between Tallawong and Bankstown will operate as one with Alstom. Metro WSA a separate contractor won the rolling stock tender

thanks will be interesting to see the internal design of the one for wsa.@@fictillius

What’s the idea behind having different rolling stock anyway as opposed to just using Alstom’s trains on all future metro lines? I’m not against having different train designs I’m just curious as to why it’s the case I suppose.
@fictillius11 ай бұрын
@@angoose2515 Alstom didn’t win the contract for Metro WSA. The best bid wins. If Alstom train sets were made compulsory there would be no competition on cost.
@cityplanner306311 ай бұрын
@@fictilliusdoesn’t that increase maintenance cost though? Like you look at communist countries are they all use similar rolling stock bc it saves on maintenance. Every Chinese metro system is built to the same standard so I metro train from shanghai could be used in another city. You look at all the Soviet counties, used similar rolling stock as well. That’s bc they were much poorer and streamlining made it much cheaper in the long run.

Metro tunnel opens in 2026
@jakal011 ай бұрын
There's no hard and fast line between suburban rail and a metro, so which parts do you care about? Single level, high capacity trains? Already here. High frequency service? Also already here, depending on the line. Platform screen doors? When the "Metro" tunnel opens later this year. Automated? That has to wait for the SRL.
@mjcats20116 ай бұрын
@@ukraineball953 Melbourne Metro is not a true metro. The Metro Tunnel just links the Sunbury Line with the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines. Rather like what the Elizabeth Line does in London. Metro is schedule to open in 2025.
@qjtvaddict6 ай бұрын
Your sunbury and pakenham lines are already practically a metro system itself pay attention
@qjtvaddict6 ай бұрын
@@mjcats2011is very similar to the Sydney metro As parts of it like the Melbourne tunnel are converted existing lines the T3 is like the sunbury line and the existing Sydney metro line is like the pakenham line the difference is the rolling stock and automatic operation both Melbourne and Sydney are using CBTC too

Why do Sydney Metro display boards exist, I would much prefer the Sydney Trains style one's as they show far more information and are so much easier to read.
@fictillius Жыл бұрын
The text needs to be a lot bigger. But what more do you need to know other the destination and how long until it arrives? It’s all stops.

3:50 love the median human height barrier doors - was just thinking about how cute they are at Expo station near Changi on East West Line of MRT. Between this and Metro Tunnel in Melbo - it's an exciting year for transport.

Why do these trains have taillights?
@daveg2104 Жыл бұрын
They can be driven by humans, when required. The controls are locked under a cover when not in use. It may also be a requirement, if not legal, then operational, to display red lights on the rear. I would have to do too much Googling to confirm though.

Most likely just for whilst testing is ongoing I’m guessing, they’ll most likely change it all over to the current ones when the line opens to the public. No need to worry as most of the announcements and sounds you hear with the doors are mainly for testing purposes.
