Great outfit. But check out their live gig at “The Black Hawk” over a dreary weekend in San Francisco in Sept.1959. Victor Feldman replaced Russ Freeman. Imo one of the best small-club live performances. . And apart from a short stint with Art Blakey this is Joe Gordon’s best performance, again imo. “The Lighthouse” had many famous live-acts (mostly recorded on the Contemporary-label) during the 50/60’s which became iconic. Dig this set folks, G’day & Cheers!

@@robertdaniels2816 Correct Robert. Victor played the vibes on many recordings. And those - Lighthouse - sessions were fantastic. And then we have Miles being Miles….G’day & Cheers!

Victor Feldman and Scotty go hand in hand, I wonder if that’s why they paired them for these two tracks 4 and 5.

If he had played the bassoon, he would transformed it into an exciting jazz solo instrument. What passion!

Just beautiful the way he starts his solo with a low growl and slides up from there. Knocks me out every time I hear it. Last year, 2014, after the Memorial Day parade in my town, I saw a high school student with his bass clarinet being picked up by his mom and I yelled over 'I hope he's listening to Eric Dolphy.' She nodded yes. Ah!
