The officer had sifillis and lost his mind. Side effect. Common back then. The wagon idiot was there to guide Dunbar.those two are the only two that knew Dunbar was going out there and both died. Essential to the story on why nobody came to the fort sooner. The Cisco and Two Sox was gut wrenching

Not really a movie you can discuss after only one watch. I would suggest y'all watch The Ninth Gate, Angel Heart, and Jacob's Ladder if you haven't already. All kind of fit in a similar psychological mystery theme. Some of my favorite movies of all time.

It's important to remember that even though this was set in the 90s, it was based by a book written in the 20s when interest in the human psyche was almost at its peak so the Freudian aspect of this film is in keeping with the theme of the original novel. Not only that, but Kubrick sticks incredibly close to the events described in the book, even tiny ones as, for instance when a group of students deliberately barge into him in the street. This, of course, scotches all those crazy conspiracies about Kubrick uncovering a nest of illuminati and they had him killed in order to shut him up. Boy, can people be stupid! I think it would benefit you guys to read the book ("Dream Story") in just the same way that a reading of "Lolita" would help your appreciation of that film if you have not already done so. Apparently Kubrick had nurtured the wish to film EWS for thirty years. I think the most interesting question would be "Why this book?" What hold did it have on his imagination that he could not let go of it? Was that why the process of filming was so long and painstaking?

You need to watch Kubrick’s films more than once & maybe several times to appreciate the subtleties of not only the way the movie is filmed but what is left to interpretation : Is what shows up on the film what is actually happening? Or is it in the mind of the characters?- this what makes the Shining such an utterly terrifying movie.

Again, you guys critiquing a Brit director about British or European period film, you just have to be part of our heritage to truly understand where he was coming from. The slow pace is all part of his vision of that time. Brits vs States culture are so different. Maybe its the length of our retrospective country's history that is the most telling aspect. Like your reviews on the whole, but possibly just stick to USA directors - you reference them all the time!

I think you have to be a Brit to understand the story about our society he was trying to tell. It's a masterpiece of filmography of what our culture was all about 50 years ago, with an eye on what the future may be. The 'silly' language both in the book and film, is also a take on some of things us Brits say. Kubrick was immense in the take on all that. To be honest, I think unless you are from the UK you arent really able to properly critique the story.

The reason she doesn’t want to go to war is because of the prophecy not because of Alicent. Dragonstone is Rhaneyras seat all heirs stay there. Also if they were in KingsLanding all of the blacks would be put to the sword as that’s what the whole small council wanted.

The show will be 4 seasons. Criston is made Lord Commander by Alicent she rewards him for killing for her. As for this show not showing the lavishness of the books it actually shows it much better than GOT. Each house is very easily identifiable they wear bright colours of their houses with sigils like in the books something D&D thought would be silly to do. Also there’s only 7 kingsguard 5 are in KingsLanding and we saw 4 this ep. 2 are on Dragon stone protecting Rhaneyra

Aegon was drunk and is not as strong willed as Aemod so he would listen to whoever would get his ear first if Otto did they would first put the blacks to the sword and then crown Aegon and Alicent would crown him and she for peace

What makes this show much better than GOT S1 is that it’s heartfelt which any family drama should be. Ned’s death is shocking but you do not weep for him just feel bad whereas Viserys death you know it’s coming from Ep 1 but it’s still very tragic

The entire red keep sets is built same with Driftmark and drgaonstone Also Harrenhal is already burned the conqueror burned. Also Rhaneyra grows fat and plain with the childbirths in the books so older Rhaneyra is very accurate to the book

I watch some of the old ones for Ken Adam's set designs alone. He did sets for Kubrick y'know? They also feature Oscar winning film composer John Barry's amazing scores. There is a lot of quality and charm as well as being culturally and historically important. In the 60's and 70's they were the peak of action adventure entertainment and pioneered the progression of the stunt industry by being at the forefront of it. It's not just a "white dude" going around being a misogynist, which is a common misconception when it comes to Bond. He doesn't hate women, he uses them when necessary because it's part of his job as he would with anyone else for that matter.. because he's a cold hearted bastard who kills people for a living.
