Another exceptional video! Love the insights on using Light Cavalry. I do like me some French Dragoons and probably have at least one unit of Dragoons embedded in my Light Cavalry unit. Or do you think add a Dragoon unit or two with an all Heavy Cavalry unit?
@TabletopHistory-ex7qn4 ай бұрын
In peninsular war, dragoon operate as heavy cavalry. I added to my light brigade only because I have not enough heavy cavalry to operate as a single brigade, usually they work as Medium Heavy cavalry, even when more hevier cavalry (such as Courassiers and Carabiniers were present. Maybe later on I will add a second unit of dragoon, not sure at the moment... to many stuff to paint before

@@TabletopHistory-ex7qn Yes sir...lots of lead and plastic for sure. I have a ton of 15mm Naps from back in the day when we played other rule systems. I was able to break them out for V&F, which worked well as mentioned before. Now I have a nice collection of 28mm Naps for "Sharp's Practice" gaming. My units are for the Peninsular area and have a nice collection of French Dragoons with dismounted options. I have British to include the fictitious "South Essex" regiment along with 95th rifles and of course Spanish Guerillas. I have a couple of boxes of Portuguese along with some Perry Cazadores to match. I need to break them out on the table and see if I can field enough for a good game of V&F. Great video on covering the "Artillery" arm of the army for V&F! I cannot find any information concerning using artillery in a battery set-up. How would more than one cannon fire in a battery? Also I couldn't find any information you mentioned concerning artillery in melee and adding double die. This is the one area I'm having the most issues with when playing artillery. Any help and insights would be greatly appreciated. Looking through the rest of your videos for V&F. Thanks again.
@TabletopHistory-ex7qn4 ай бұрын
I try to be clear and if I wrote something evident to you, sorry about that. First of all the rules you need for battery and artillery are on the data sheets of your army. Second: when we deploy a single gun, it will represents about 6 guns in real life, for this reason we spoke about artillery battery. Than French and Russian (and also Austrian in my hopinion shoud) have the rule "Battery". This rule was made to emulate a large concentration of guns such as the Grand Batterie. The rule allow to add more fire support at long range (usually you may add only one gun becuase each gun count two units and the max for fire support are three units). Finally for the melee, the rule that you have tu master is Canister: this add two dice to the unit melee value. So you have 2 basic attacks, plus two more attacks for canister (this will emulates the rounds of shrapnel shoot at close range against the attackers) for a total of 4 attack for a single gun and 6 from two guns (4 + 2 for the melee support)and so on. For this reason I said that is not sure that a charge against an artillery battery will end in a succes. I hope that now these rules are more clear, feel free to ask anything else. PS: have a look at the new rules for the commander traits. Have a brigade made only of guns with a Commander with the artillerist trait allow us to truly recreate the Grand Batterie. If you have not seen the PDF yet, s a 3 page rules made by JJ to create your army and brigade commander giveing them traits and "Artillerist" allow your artillery to shoot to whatever you whant and not the closest one. Cheers

@@TabletopHistory-ex7qn Wow...what a great response back...Much appreciated! I now understand the term battery for a single gun...makes sense for this level of gaming. I'm still a bit confused on how to calculate up the artillery "Fire" number if I have two cannons. I guess one would be the primary shooter, while the second would be support, thus giving a "1" extra for fire? I've played both Napoleonic's (French vs Prussians) and this past weekend, American Civil War. The organization is a bit different, with more infantry and artillery, versus cavalry like the NAP period. Still working on sample Brigade rosters for that. I did downloaded the latest version of the rules, and you're correct, I have to look at the Army rosters for more rules for that army. As you mentioned, if Napoleon is commanding...whew, Artillery can be really powerful. Again, thank you for the fast response back. Take care.
@TabletopHistory-ex7qn4 ай бұрын
@@redmist1122 If you have two cannon (for example) that want to shoot to a cavalry unit, one will be the Main Attacker and will shoot one shot over 12" ar two if in canister range. The other gun will lend support with one dice, no matter the distance. You may add a max off 3 support fire dice, but because artillery count two units when do this, you may, at best have one die of support although you are a French or a Russina with the rule BATTERY, which allow you to have up to 5 support fire dice from the other guns in the BATTERY (deployed no more than 6" apart and never moved since deployment)

A few interesting and good tips. Personally, I usually try to use historical setups, even if that seems very limiting. But I should try detachments. 🤔
@TabletopHistory-ex7qn6 ай бұрын
Well, I try to play historical as much as I can with my models (I haven't enough of them to field two division in 28mm. Detachments in my view of the game are small units made from the voltigers and deployed in front of the brigade, or Riflemen units similarly deployed by the Brtish, so I don't see them ass unhistorical. I tested both the options: Use light infantry from the same brigade in cooperation with their Line batalions or deployed in a large Brigade made all of light infantry. Playing a lot both the options and I felt that the first solution works better for the French wile the second suits better the British... Still testing, every game is a "per se" game...
@totalburnout54246 ай бұрын
@@TabletopHistory-ex7qn That's true. I also see detachments on the French side as historically appropriate. Especially at Austria you are strongly tied to historical lineups. Like their commanders at the time. 😉

Very interesting. I didn't know the system yet. I would have assumed that the tactics depended more on the terrain. My favorite for solo play at the moment is Grant's "Programmed Wargame Scenarios". William Silvester's "Solo Wargaming Guide" is also good, but more suitable for campaigns. Experimented a bit with RPG solo engines - for example Mythic Emulator - but these would have to be rewritten to make them work. Someday... Nice video! 👍
