What is color science? Is ZEISS connected to any photography studio? When using so-called professional gray cards, white paper or color cards for color reproduction of image works, these color samples will be stained by the light pollution of ambient light and lose their original colors. For color restoration purposes? In my opinion, the directivity white balance filter is the most accurate white balance tool in the world.
@photojoseph

You’ve said a lot here and I’m not quite sure if any of these are actual questions or if you’re being hypothetical. Color will always be “tainted” by ambient light, so all you can do is be as accurate as possible in the first place. Control what you can.

Hi can you help me? I am not sure if I am explaining it right! My lumix s5 all the buttons from w/b, iso and record button in front of camera are not working properly. I press each button and it does not stay open long enough to make changes and the big button that use to be my record button is now taking pictures. I reset my camera twice. and it's still doing the same thing! Do I make sense? I could use your knowledge right now. I have google it many times and I can I can't find how to fix it. I have a video shoot on Monday and I can't Even my settings disappeared each time I turn camera on. thank you
@photojoseph
@photojoseph 9 сағат бұрын
Settings disappearing even after a reset is disconcerting. The ISO/WB etc. buttons; can you press and hold the button, and dial in a new setting? If so, that’s an option in the camera. You can choose to press or press-and-hold to change the setting. If that works, then that’s tells me that the reset isn’t working, or you’re not doing a full reset. If that’s not the case and you really are doing a full reset then it sounds like something is wrong with the camera, I’m sorry to say.

does this also work on a BGH1? and doesn't the image get squeezed at anamorphic mode?
@photojoseph
@photojoseph 9 сағат бұрын
Anamorphic desqueeze in-camera is just the preview on screen. The image is still squeezed and needs to be de-squeezed in post. And yes the BGH1 has desqueeze features as well.
@acidvideothomas8383
@acidvideothomas8383 2 сағат бұрын
@@photojoseph thanks. and does it get squeezed with both anamorphic and normal lenzes?
@photojoseph
@photojoseph 2 сағат бұрын
@ hm, I think there’s a little confusion here. Let’s start from the top. Anamorphic is the lens, not the camera. The lens distorts the image; the glass elements aren’t round, but oval shaped, and through optics they distort the image - squeeze it - before it hits the sensor. The largest anamorphic lenses are a 2x squeeze, meaning that if you were to photograph a square, that square on the sensor would be squeezed 2x horizontally, meaning it’s now half as wide as it should be (½ as wide as it is tall). In software, you de-squeeze the image. Meaning you stretch it back out the same amount that the lens squeezed it in; in this case, 2x. Or alternatively you can compress the image vertically; that’s up to you and the point is you need to “un”-distort the image so a square becomes a square again. The desqueeze function in the camera is simply for monitoring, so that what you’re looking at on the LCD doesn’t appear distorted while you’re filming. But the captured image is always still squeezed. Does that make sense?
@acidvideothomas8383
@acidvideothomas8383 2 сағат бұрын
@@photojoseph thanks again! so in short it's only the lens that does the distorting. so if i use a normal lens on one of the anamorphic modes on my BGH1 nothing gets distorted, right?

Hey Joseph, another RCV question for you - first time recording an event with it, and about half way through a 1hr event we noticed a lot of "lag" and freezes in our video recording. When I checked the individual camera recordings after I see the same thing. This never happened with the ATEM. Ideas?
@MikeVp
@MikeVp 3 күн бұрын
Do you think it's a problem with the ISO mode, maybe killing memory in my computer? I never had ISO in ATEM and was excited to have that option for the RCV
@photojoseph
@photojoseph 3 күн бұрын
the RCV recording is independent of the computer; after all it's not needed at all. Ensure your cameras and RCV are set to the same framerate to reduce the chance of frame rate conversions taxing the system, but offhand that's all I can think of. CHeck the frame rates, reboot everything and try again -- obviously you don't have to do a real live show, but I would stream to an unlisted show and go through the motions for an hour and see what happens. If it does happen again, definitely rach out to RØDE (or do it anyway) to see what they say. Oh, and make sure your SSD is clean and freshly formatted.
@MikeVp
@MikeVp 3 күн бұрын
@@photojoseph Yeah, SSD was just reformatted and I will double check frame rates. I noticed it was running a little hot but the end and then noticed a fan vent on the bottom? Maybe it needed better ventilation? I will reach out to RØDE as well, good suggestion.

As a new PL user, I found PL8 has a steep learning curve for the couple of hours but wow, it really is excellent! PL really brings out the best in my Canon 6D images. I particularly value the ability to fully tailor the Customise editing interface to one's own requirements. Also, the Fuji Velvia simulation/rendering is superb. It's really nice to find Velvia bundled into PL8, since it's my favourite film, harking back to the film era when I began photography. Just saw this and was interested in how you would present the expodisc, nicely done. I started using the expodisc about 3 yrs ago when the photos I was taking with multi-speedlights were bad. So I learned about WB, and that camera auto wb is not always great. I carry the expodisc with me and always use it. The only time I do not use it is when it's a concept photo, the type of photo I take and make what ever I want with, sometime taking the picture without looking at the viewfinder, just pointing the lens at what I see (sort of Are Bure Boke style photography), so color is not a priority!

That’s a good guideline. However the waveform monitor is what matters most. In a normal lit scene (i.e. not a dark, or night, scene), the top of the wave needs to not clip (other than speculation highlights which will always clip). My practice for run-and-gun shooting is to keep the brightest part of the scene at the top of the wave. Then, darken it in post.

Macros operate on the device itself while Companion requires an external computer to operate. ATEM has Companion support too, but you can’t do everything with Companion that you can do with macros. One isn’t necessarily better than the other. Having both is best. You can’t still automate more with an ATEM but having companion support for the RCV is huge.

Love the new addition with stream deck…BUT if Rode/Elgato made it possible to do this it would change productions completely… Currently the stream deck makes it easier to select A to G without switching from Media to Lower Thirds…IF they could allow the stream deck to not just hold the keys assigned A to G but allow say A to J, additional media or lower thirds. So let’s say your live stream has 15 lower thirds, having a stream deck XL and having 15 pre assigned lower thirds would be amazing. Hope that makes sense.
