Funny how so much of the fun to be had on a moto is while going uphill and most the fun on a mtb is while heading downhill! Great video!
@CurtisBrandt
@CurtisBrandt 3 ай бұрын
That's for sure! In fact, a lot of moto riders DON'T seem to enjoy downhills! LOL Going uphill it's so much easier to control your speed into corners, I think, and it's just as easy to add throttle on the way out. Downhill tends to feel less in control the heavier the bike, to me at least. It's just in the last few years I've really started to enjoy downhill segments, whether on the road or in the dirt, and it took a big mindset change to get to that point.

That section is called the Devil's Slide. It's not THAT diabolical on a dirt bike (I've ridden up it several times on something like a 300 XC, and a lot of other riders do, too), but I don't think I am capable of summoning the necessary commitment level to ride up it on the 890. Every time I think about it, I realize I can barely ride down it, much less up. I am not ruling out trying it sometime, but it feels like too much if I'm honest. But I"m sure I'm going to keep THINKING about it. ;-)

@CurtisBrandt
@CurtisBrandt 4 ай бұрын
Hey! Yeah we are lucky to have that loop so close to town. I bet you're going to love your 890. You may or may not find it benefits from a few things, but what bike doesn't, especially when you take into account your own experience with it, and how you intend to use it? I'd been hearing good things about the suspension service at Carl's, so when I developed a leaky fork seal, I figured I might as well have the forks and shock serviced and adjusted while they were off. I asked for settings suited to pushing way harder in rough terrain. I'm not super familiar with suspension internals but I know I got heavier fork springs and a revalve, front and rear. I previously had it on about the "sport" setting from the manual, and that was "in the ballpark". After the revalve, both ends (especially the forks) are more supple over sharp hits, and also hold up better on big hits. That's all we want, right? Supple on the little stuff and bottoming resistance on the big hits. Easy huh? LOL. I love the direction things are going. I'm happy with how things feel on sharp hits. I'm still bottoming slightly more than I'd like, at both ends, and the rear is rebounding a little bit fast off the bigger hits (like my 2022 300 XC did, too). Fortunately, the clickers are right in the middle of the settings (way lower settings than I used to have), so I should have some room for fiddling. Next ride I'm going up a few clicks all around, especially on the rebound in the rear. Enjoy your new bike! These things are a hoot! Thanks for watching and checking in. Don't hesitate to ask, if you have any further questions.

Sweet! Yeah we have some good riding here. Most people with their 1290 SAR don't ride like my buddy Robbie here, but he shows it can be done! The 1290 SAR has me thinking, too! I LOVE the LC8 engine (I have a couple of other 1290s and they are STUPENDOUS), much prefer this powerplant to the parallel twin of the 890. I am fairly certain I could ride most of what my friends ride, and maybe 80% of what I ride on the 890, on a 1290. Then I lift a 1290 off the sidestand, feel those extra 80 lb (or so), and it gives me pause... LOL. Decisions, decisions.

@CurtisBrandt
@CurtisBrandt Жыл бұрын
@@kx8960 That's a great area where you've ridden! Yeah, I've ridden a fair number of different locations in the west, and this area is pretty much as good as it gets. I do like the Sierra passes in the Reno area, but I'm perfectly happy here in Idaho for sure. I haven't even ridden Lolo yet! A couple of years ago I did an Iron Butt Saddlesore 1000 (1096 mi in one day), basically a big loop from Boise to Missoula and back, and planned on hitting Lolo pass. There was an issue involving a rock slide and I wasn't certain I could get through, so I changed my route. Still had a great day, and still need to go back to Lolo! So you have an 890R? Those are great bikes! You can really cover some miles, and they're amazingly capable in the dirt for sure. You have some pretty bad habits of cutting blind corners and leaving you and potentially anyone coming the opposite way in danger of a head on. They are rare but they do happen and learning to stay tight to the outside of those corners could save you and someone else of some major injuries. Even following these guidelines can result in a head on, happened to me at Clear Creek in the late nineties with another new rider who target fixated on me and I nearly ran off the road to avoid but the other rider adjusted to my every move. Be careful out there. Oiye, just got to the point where the atv rode right down the middle and between you two...

@@CurtisBrandt I am guessing my jealousy of you living in Boise and having so many miles of pristine trail systems\forestry roads in your backyard had me a bit snarky as my post came off a bit preachy. I have seen a few of your videos as I plan to move East as soon as I retire and a friend moved to the Nampa area but had zero feedback on trails in the area, your videos have shown some extensive trail systems still open to dirt bikes. Primary concern for retirement is rural and mass trail riding system nearby. The problem is that engine in the 890 just eggs you on and having the adjustable slipper on say 3-4 just begs to hang it out there with a safety net and flat-tracking is just too addictive.
