I was at that match (August 1992) and Cantona cut a sad and dejected figure that day. The simple truth was that Leeds just weren't utilising him or his great talent. In one move early in the 1st half the leeds goalkeeper rolled the ball out to Cantona at speed and while he was still facing his own goal he kicked it high into the air across the pitch . The utd full backs had pushed up very high so as to put pressure on the leeds wingers .The ball sailed across the field at least 60 yards at an angle and landed a full 15 yards inside the utd half leaving Irwin stranded up field -the leeds winger (Rod Wallace) just stood and watched it land in no mans land (he would have been clear and in on goal ). On seeing this Cantona threw up his arms in frustration and for the rest of the match he tried his best ,but,the Leeds set up just didn't suit his style. On monday morning (i was contracting at Sharps at the time) i made the prediction to the utd fans who were maligning Cantona -"If we buy Cantona we'll win the title because he'll slot straight into our style of play" -Boy,did i get laughed at and mocked -BUT,funnily enough come the following April they were ALL chanting his name !!.

He most likely wants to stay in Germany as it is his home country and he has a great dynamic with the other german players. Bayern will likely snatch him after next season. If he wants to play abroad 99% he'll join either Barca or Madrid. The only way he'll want to join United is if he was a childhood fan of the club, which I doubt honestly.

@@muws-MUFC I think that he will fit right in at Utd as a former Leeds captain that has also coached City's age group squads. Additionally, his stint under former Reds legend Dalglish should come in handy too. After all, the this century has seen so many Utd players with allegiances to Leeds/Liverpool and Man City.
