After 4 min he has said nothing. If he was flying the max he would be talking to Saint Peter if the AOA vane stuck. What happened is there was a anti stall system in the plane that trimmed the 737 fully down, while the pilots were type rated to fly this 737 max plane they did not know this system(MCAS) even existed. This system depended on one mechanical vane sensor. What is needed is a button that turns off MCAS, still lets column trim switches work and switches off auto pilot. Having more redundancies might not work. Cos common cause may cause both vanes to stick. If the pilots had that button, and had been told about MCAS this cashes wouldn't happen. No body sat back and asked "what does this mean for safety " is bs. They Boeing new they were told by the programmers and engineers, the decision was made by their Boeing bosses Mums the word we don't want the aircraft to need a new type rating or the air lines to have to pay to retrain pilots. That is why these crashes happened. A bent/ incompetent FAA and a bullying management culture in Boeing. MCAS is needed to prevent pitch up and stall because of new location of more powerful engines causing the engines to behave like set to pitch up canards in higher AOA situation. With out a quick way out for the pilots like this suggested button, MAX will still be dangerous. As per landing short due to wind shear with out MCAS, is just as deadly. Like flying through a tropical down pour just in front of the runway. Pilot boots plane, it can pitch and stall and come down, crunch.

I agree. I as a program manager I see better value in the PgMP book. I this presentation is a lot blah blah and when one is presenting, reading the slides out loud is not the way to get the attention of your audiences which is the whole point of a program manager

It absolutely WILL fly passengers again. It will probably have a new name just like the DC-10 when it was killing passengers. It was fixed and they started calling it MD-11.

xNYCMarc, that was up-to-date technology at the time - this isn't; it's a mish-mash of old and new systems in conflict with each other. The aircraft utilises trimming as the centre of it's automated control - truly a no-no! Interestingly, as you say, like the DC10 that was relegated to flying cargo, it was made by McDonald Douglas also. Their production culture infected Boeing - what a tragedy. At the time, Locheed, Boeing and McDonald Douglas were producing wide-bodied aircraft. The Locheed was considered the more advanced and better plane - however, cost was a core component of purchase, not surprisingly. There seems to be a trend here with the 737 MAX. Nice to discuss with you.
@xNYCMarc
@xNYCMarc 4 жыл бұрын
@@edwardgeorge4881 The autopilot on every aircraft ever produced (other than full fly-by-wire) uses trim to control the aircraft. It's not a "no-no". It has been done for decades. The Max uses trim to augment ONE particular flight characteristic in a very specific set of circumstances. Absent those circumstances, the system offers no intervention, much like a stick-pusher. It only intervenes when the pilot is ignoring a stall condition or in this case when the system malfunctions and intervenes when it shouldn't. Yes, the airframe is old. But old doesn't mean obsolete.
@edwardgeorge4881

xNYCMarc, absent those circumstances MCAS) and the aircraft is out of balance!
@xNYCMarc
@xNYCMarc 4 жыл бұрын
Edward George No, it really isn’t. MCAS was implemented to make the aircraft behave more like the older design so it could still be certified under the same type rating and require no further pilot training. This was a requirement imposed by Southwest Airlines. Boeing was trying to meet Southwest’s requirements. Without MCAS, pilots would have required at least “differences training” if not an entirely new type rating, which Southwest didn’t want. The aircraft is stable on its own, but is just different from the original design.
