This was rather nerve-wracking to watch, because Jodie Foster is so nervous, so rattled at having to be herself, not a character. About ten years later, in 2024, she is much more comfortable in her own skin.

I’m so glad that it’s so easy to look back on these old openers. The last few years of award shows have been, understandably, underwhelming. 2024 GGAs were supposed to be the big return. Jo Koy bombed so bad that it had me wondering if I was misremembering and they all sucked. I wasn’t and they didn’t.
