The production of the recording in the rusting hulk of a ship is incredible. The short interview inserts that give more and more perspective and insight is beautifully scripted. The musicians of Tinariwen merit this kind of special thoughtfulness. Their music transports the listener. The messages expressed are powerful. I don't understand how their voices are not heard as much as they should be. Their role as keepers of the desert cannot be ignored.

I found it challenging to get people in my country of the good old USA to recognize this group as so powerfully musical as to challenge anything that is currently “all the rage” in America today, perhaps the manner of dress throws them off? if so, ridiculous, and it doesn’t matter, I dance to them in oblivion, admire the guitar tone that so many guitarist here are killing themselves to get, and it’s my selfish secret from here on! But, there’s hope…once in a while someone gets it - what’s there NOT to get is the question that puzzles me

Rumi started the blues with his content. Hundreds of years later people still recited his pomes. African slaves brought it to the delta. Chicago they plugged this shit in and the world heard. People like Alan Lomax and Bill lasswell and sex pistols founder Malcom McLaren and ginger baked man from cream took airplanes in to the Mama and showed mali, west Africa, Nigeria, south Africa to plug in and now on web we listen to the plug. The Blues NEVER dies. At 25:00after dialogue tinariwen launches into a typical long play swear they listen to the Grateful Dead
