This song was written by Lynn Pratt, who also had some of his own songs released. ”Come Here Mama” on Hornet Records, for example.

John was never trying to be Elvis and the Jordinaires came out of retirement to sing and record with him. He also toured with Scotty Moore, DJ Fontana and Carl Perkins.

I commend you for your scrupulous investigative efforts relating to the intriguing background stories of these recordings , especially as it's about the music styles that I love . I particularly like the B-side featured here . Many thanks .

@@Volk Don't know whether you've covered it or not but I think the grimly tragic tale of the Lee Emerson/ Staff Seargent Barry Sadler feud might accord with the themes of your excellent Stranger Than Fiction series . Lee Emerson was an accredited rockabilly/country music Columbia recording artist of the 50's and of course Barry Sadler had a 1968 number one charted US hit , "Silver Wings" Their personal conflict which culminated grievously was somewhat like the lurid circumstances attending the triangular romantic involvements of songwriter Dwight Sherman ( So Young) and his pal , William Armstrong , which you've graphically covered already . Would like to see another penetrating exploration of yours , featuring Emerson and Sadler . Thanks .

@@colinpurssey9875 Hello Colin, I do know the story, it was Lee Emerson's birthday a few days back & I posted some newspaper clippings from 1978 / 79. Most of the info does seem to be in the public domain. Look out for the Don Wade, San Records story, it should be posted Sept / Oct.

Was the Spooner character in the film named after Mike Berry who did a Buddy Holly Tribute song? Mike Berry played Spooner on Are You Being Served? a british sitcom from the 1970s.

He was the first rockabilly artist on Starday label. They didn’t know how to sell him. If they had done it properly, he would have definitely challenged Elvis. Sonny was offered a contract to continue with Starday, but he thought Pappy Daily was trying to screw him, so he refused. Pappy wasn’t trying to do that, actually. Sonny’s friends were telling him that his records were selling like hot cakes and Pappy Daily wasn’t paying him. That wasn’t true, the only song that sold a little bit was Eddie Bond’s cover version of ”Rockin’ Daddy” on Mercury.

I like a lot of the old rockabilly guitar ' styles '. Sonny Fisher is one of them. Modern guitar players do a fine job but few have the same ' style '.
