Didn't realize there is so much modern equipment in S scale! I remember it when I was starting out in model trains it was primarily narrow gage steam!
@crazyman76226 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Doing "modern" in S is more difficult but for me that is sort of the point of it all. You need to accept a pretty wide era range to run at the same time. And there is a lot of equipment that has not been made - yet. If you look at my other more recent clips you will see some 1 of a kind cars. The only SD40-2 are 100 total made by Overland in 1983. Getting them to run well is a lot of work. But I have been in S only got 37 years now.

I imagine that is Vic Roseman at 1:04. I was very sorry to read that he had died. In the late 1970's I was fascinated by his articles on constructing O-scale models of CNJ locomotives from AHM IHB 0-8-0 kits and the amazingly realistic photographs he produced by photographing his models and dioramas in natural light on the sites of former CNJ installations. In 1982-3 I lived in NJ and was made welcome by members of the erstwhile Westfield club. Warren B Crater, a CNJ locomotive engineer had been a member of the club but he died before my arrival in NJ, so I never met him. Mr. Crater was an O-scale modeller and historian who published books on CNJ locomotives and rolling stock. It was very interesting to me to read that Victor had worked with Warren Crater in the 1970's. In 1983, with a friend, I attended a model train meet in Freeport, Long Island where I met Victor in person and where he promised to send me a copy of his plan book. It eventually reached me once I was back in England and I still have it amongst my treasured possessions. In 2021, I contacted Victor by email about a recent publication of his. To my surprise, he remembered our meeting and where and when we had met. What an amazing memory to remember one meeting from almost forty years before.. I met Victor only once but his work enriched my life.

Thanks. It was somewhat accidental to have containers with open doors. The fact is that the Husky Stack cars are really light and not usable empty. Even the plastic Des Plaines containers are not enough weight so I use die cast containers from the 1/64 model truck hobby to add weight. THAT added enough weight, and they have opening doors. It made for good photos and made comments as well.

@crazyman762 Жыл бұрын
Almost all the trains I have now have to be bought used. I look on eBay all the time. I would not consider what I have to be used by a 5 year old though they are delicate. Consider American Flyer.
