This is the best in class pen tech Huion has to offer for its pen tablets. I would put this as a "pro" level pen tablet, its just stripped down since there is no fancy pen holder, not made of metal and has no buttons. When you start learning to use a pen tablet, I would actually recommend working without pressure and tilt as its all to steep of a learning curve. Its easier to master strokes first then, then work on controlling pressure / tilt. Anyways, if this falls in your price range, there will be nothing better, with its closest next option being XP-Pen Deco LW. I do see the Deco LW on eBay, from XP-Pen themselves, certified refurbished (1 year warranty like a new product) for $60 USD. You can't go wrong with both, but the pen options of the Huion PW517/PW550/PW550s is better over the X3 Elite pen from XP-Pen. If you don't need wireless / Android / iOS support then a ton of options open up.

@@isaacro.6138 There is nothing that XenceLabs will give you, other than an extra pen. Its an XP-Pen sister company like Ugee, but their "premium" offering. So you are getting a second pen and better customer support. I would recommend the Deco Pro Gen 2 LW, I love their pen and you get their shortcut keys, which isn't included in with Xencelabs Medium pen tablet. Xencelabs medium also does not support Android, iOS, or ChromeOS, unlike the Deco Pro Gen 2. There is also the HUION Inspiroy Dial 2 as an option but I feel that the X3 Pro pen from XP-Pen is a better pen than the PW517 shipped with the Dial 2.

@@joseph-montanezI want to ask something, are these tablets same in terms of pen sensitivity? Cause if im not wrong 640 would have built in 16k pressure? And this other one gets 16k from the firmware update? Cause i checked from the site where i ordered 640 and it says max pen pressure for this ugee 8k, so question is did xp pen 480 just updated firmware before selling or its built in cause theoretically i think built in works better, but then again if looking at amazon it says 16k, weird
@joseph-montanez
@joseph-montanez Күн бұрын
@JonelKingas the Deco 640 does have 16k out of the box. The Ugee Q6 has 8k out of the box but a firmware update can be downloaded from the website. You need Windows or MacOS to run the firmware to update the Ugee Q6 to 16k pressure. The before and after difference was not noticeable for the Ugee Q6 it already had great performance. You can also get felt nibs for the Q6 pen from XP-Pen, since it’s the same nib as the X3 Elite pen from XP-Pen. There are no felt nibs for the Deco 640.

What should I get for £100, I need one for school but don't do art - it's just for general writing and maybe drawing soils for geography? What would you suggest
@joseph-montanez
@joseph-montanez 3 күн бұрын
The PW550s and X3 Elite both have similar initial activation force. The out of the box experience the, the PW550s would win. It’s a straight linear pressure curve and you will see every change in pressure. Also because there is less nib retraction/ wobble, I’ve noticed in writing specially I am less likely to drag the tail end of a letter stroke since the nib isn’t dropping down as much. Now over the X3 Pro pen, that’s where I would prefer the X3 Pro. But that’s only available in the Deco Pro Gen 2 Series. So overall the performance of the PW550s is better than the X3 Elite. I am just not a fan of the slim design, feels too slippery to me.
@joseph-montanez
@joseph-montanez 3 күн бұрын
@zane0756 I think for what you get, it’s worth it but I also think it’s overkill for school. I had recently reviewed the Gaomon WH851 which is a medium size 8x5 rather than a 10x6, but you get buttons, same Bluetooth support, great pen. They are both Huion products, in fact the pens work interchangeably between the two. The Gaomon WH851 would probably be a better purchase unless you really are wanting the most compact 10x6, textured and one of the best in class pen performance.

I’d reach out to Lenovo to see if there are other compatible pens. As for laptop cover, there are none right now unless it’s a leather cover which does not work for the 2-in-1 tablet mode. As for screen protector and 14 inch screen protector will work. These screen protectors only cover the specific visible LCD, and not the entire screen.

Hi joseph thank you so much for making this video. I am going through bad hand tenosynovitis in both my hands (especially in the area that connected my thumb and index finger). I am looking to invest in a wacom tablet to use as a mouse as using a regular mouse just does not do it for me and makes the injury come back. Someone on reddit suggested me to get a Wacom Intuos Pro PTH-660 and Use OpenTabletDriver by modifying the DualActionBinds plugin to work with different pressures instead of press/release. I was wondering if you can give it a try and make a video on it maybe? The thing is i do not want to ideally press any buttons on the pen and would like to just use my cursor, do left /right clicks and do select all via the tablet pen. Please also tell me if you can what pen i should get as the lightest pen in weight will probably be the easiest for me to use. In your video you said some pens have buttons that are harder to press than others so if i do have to use the button i would like a light/ easy press as well to put the least amount of force on my joints. I can tell you are suffering from hand issues as well due to work so i feel for you hoping you recover from this soon thanks
@joseph-montanez
@joseph-montanez 13 күн бұрын
I tried DualActionBinds I don't see that feature. Well you can set it, but it does not let you set any pressure its just on or off. You'd need to use the tip threshold, which is in-dependent. It also only seems to work with keys, not specific to mouse clicking. I dont think the Wacom Intuos Pro M is worth the money if you are just going to use it with open tablet driver. Its multi-touch with features to scroll, tap, zoom, etc.

I agree with many of the limitations that you pointed out here, but getting it running on Linux is pretty straight forward. I have created a simple docker with just the packages listed in the Raspberry Pi Pico SDK GitHub repository and it just works fine for the examples that uses the SDK, setting up the Dev environment of the baremetal example is the tough one.
@joseph-montanez
@joseph-montanez Ай бұрын
I ended up giving up on using Swift on the pico. Using the debug probe causes issues with sleep timers (it never ends). However the nail in the coffin, anymore more than their examples, you have to implement a custom dynamic memory allocation and atomic operations. I tried but they all result in panics. So I used -no-allocations, and this was fine with a big exception. Every fixed-sized buffer I created needed its own swift implementation for every single fixed sized. This includes things like splitting a buffer, reversing, etc. Unlike Rust where I can use lifetimes and generics, Swifts generic or even macro system cannot handle this. I was writing swift code to generate more swift code for every sized buffer.

Good video, clear points made. Regarding the server issues, I never use the full-stack features of any framework. The server side of many apps is easily done (or straightforward to do since you don't need to tweak every component and their colors), and it is easy to control when you just have the webapp interface with api's through json. I have found just making a Spring back-end takes little to no time compared to nodejs, let alone nuxt 3 nodejs server. It is a pain to maintain the server inside if the front-end code base since sometimes both breaks at the same time, and you can't test either one. In the front-end I didn't like any server-side rendering. Until I came to nuxt 3. I work on end-to-end encrypted webapp. I finished the app in Angular, which is completely statically generated runs on the client side 100% of the time. That's important because I need to use WebAssembly to run the encryption. But in nuxt 3, though it has all these cool features, it is also extremely customizable. I can load the encryption module completely on the client side through a plugin and have fine grained control over how that's done. I would suggest to just try the ssr rendering, and it makes a lot of behaviors predictable in nuxt 3. For example the problem you had with the updates, which is a none issue in ssr. Sometimes I don't even know if it is my browser caching the files or the static server is caching it.

Thanks that you shared your experience. All our websites that need an update are migrating to Nuxt, and we really like how it's going. Also it's definetly alot easier for new people to start working on Vue(Nuxt) than React(Next).
