No way in hell did this guy stop his own bar fights with Aikido wrist locks. No way.

When this guy says he would just "step aside" from a skilled @$$hole, it instantly remind me of a tabletop RPG called _Werewolf: The Apocalipse,_ where the werewolves have an natural ability called "sidestep" that allows then to physically move from the physical realm to the spiritual realm (called Umbra). Maybe this guy has that ability too.

I like Joe, I think he makes some good points and I respect his views on fake martial arts. That said, he’s still pro MMA. MMA IS NOT the end all, be all. I train in Filipino martial arts and have rolled with BJJ practitioners and in every instance when we compared philosophies and application notes, not one of them knew how to deal with or just simply froze when I produced a hidden blade. MMA IS A SPORT!!!!….some techniques may work in real world applications but is put on way too high a pedestal.

i always find this exchange very fascinating. i always think to myself how many delusional beliefs i probably have. I don't know what to make of self delusion, the kind of coping mechanism this guy has developed. is it useful? not if confronted by reality, but i'm sure his delusion helps his self esteem from day to day.

OMG Joe Rogan is such an idiot! If Aikido or Chin Na doesn't work, then why does MMA ban wrist and finger locks in their matches in modern times then??? These takes from Rogan are just so DUMB!😂 I feel bad, sad, and pity for the bald office worker guy, honestly if I was him I'd push back severely against Joe here, what a MORON!

I think honestly this debate was probably pointless. Aikido versus MMA is like one martial arts system, Aikido which specializes in wrist locks in stand up with forms, versus MMA, Mixed Martial Arts, which contains multiple other martial arts and other combat systems...including Aikido as well. That's like saying Aikido, versus boxing/kick boxing/wrestling/BJJ/judo/Muay Thai, and several other martial arts the MMA fighter has trained and maybe specialized in 1-2 more. It's already an unfair and disingenuous argument to be had, plus if we really want to debate then we have to go through the common martial art backgrounds of MMA to AIKIDO, and even then it's unfair. IMHO though, it's worth not sleeping on Aikido. People who know and have been on the receiving end of wrist locks, finger/thumb locks, can tell you how painful they are, not just Aikido but Chin Na has finger/wrist locks. It's a bit rich and biased coming from Joe Rogan just disrespecting Aikido like that, when that clip was just demonstrating Aikido techniques to the student body and to outsiders just because it's Steven Segal. Like what does Joe Rogan expect? Aikido techniques to be applied when angry and in killing intent, to injure and even kill the participant? Most MMA demonstrations are also controlled and carefully done as well to show the students and to outside viewers what MMA is like without freaking injuring/killing the participant, so I guess by Joe's freaking logic those MMA demonstrations are soft and weak as Aikido then just because the MMA demonstrations are not ruthless beat down sessions??? Like STFU joe!

I can use aikido at work and stay employed. If I use MMA at work, I’m fired, arrested, or worse. Anything more aggressive outside of work gets met with a firearm. MMA is entertainment and has no real world application, except for the losers in life with nothing to lose.

"Yeah if you dont cooperate your arm breaks" No it doesnt ,tried it, the guy couldnt even move my arm. Pain compliance does NOT work in a bar fight. Just doesnt work. Adrenaline nullifies the pain or something but it simply doesnt work the body is so pliable you cant control a whole body on a wrist. It is impossible.

"this would never work on a real fighter not in a million years" ... by that logic the same thing can be said when you watch John Danaher or Firas Zahabi perform a jiu jitsu technique in slow motion and without any resistance (otherwise you can't follow ... obviously)

"THIS WOULD NEVER WORK AGAINST A TRAINED FIGHTER NOT IN A MILLION YEARS" ... moron, I could say the exact same thing when John Danaher or Eddie Bravo or Rener Gracie or any other Jiu Jitsu clown is slowly explaining any Jiu Jitsu technique one step at a time ... THIS WOULD NEVER WORK ON THE STREETS THEY TOO SLOW THEY DON'T EVEN PRESSURE TEST THEY WILLINGLY ALLOW THE GUY TO PERFORM THAT TECHNIQUE ... yeah durgh, how else do you learn dumbass ... unless you're The fucking Flash or something you're not gonna learn if they don't show you slowly first ... you won't learn if you don't practice slowly first ... countless of times in fact before you finally even begin to "master" it ... the same thing in UFC Fights ... Tito Ortiz vs Chuck Lidell, ALL 3 OF THEM, they literally stood there MINUTES ON END testing eachother before anything of relevance was ever done during that fight ... if you do that shit in a real fight, you're gonna fucking die out there, especially against several people, you don't have time to "measure up your opponent", you need to act fast and get out of there even faster ... all this bullshit coming from Joe Rogan, Jocko Willink and retards like them just to hype up the bjj and mma and grappling hype machine some more at the expense of everything else, cherrypicking logic and spinning reality whenever necessary or possible along the way, fucking cringe to listen to that amount of wilfully ignorant hypocricy

This guy is such freaking bullshit. I trained in Aikido for 7 years and if you want my subjective opinion here it is: Pure Aikido is not close to boxing, jujitsu, muay- tai etc. The only thing that is legit in Aikido is the routine, training, and staying in good shape. A couple of leverages are good, and mental training is good. But what is my luck that my sensei is multi martial arts black belt. He has a boxing background, a Karate background Kung Fu Wu Shu background that makes him a legit trainer for his students. And we were training 3 times a week and on Fridays, we had legit self-defense technics. So ye pure Aikido is not effective, but the one I trained was ok. But still, I never say I can and know how to fight, I'm humble. And I know a true fighter would probably "fcuk" me up. I always say just that I know some tricks that maybe can help me to win ;)
