The feel explained: basically for me it's an isolation of the movement of the arms/wrists/hands/and club without the turn and side bend of the torso... And then I just try to feel like I hit the top/inside of the ball. Probably works for me because I sometimes hit too up on it (my angle of attack can get up to like 9 degrees or something)

Second swing is best one out of those. Club isn't standing up in transition like the others.
@GarthOJ21 күн бұрын
Note- I've noticed in tailwinds and long grass, I tend to get steep, probably somewhat of a subconscious attempt to control the ball flight. Grass between the club and ball does funny stuff, and I think I tend to try to hit down to avoid the extra grass... Naturally resulting in a steep, ott move. Also note the lifty takeaway, probably to get it out of the grass Also possible it might have just been an off day... The swing does all kinds of stuff all on its own.

The wedges and chipping is in full *yikes* mode atm Hitting wedges fat, irons left, driver right and snapping left. I reckon all of it is probably just a setup issue. Probably just need to put the ball more middle of the stance.

Club is standing up too much in transition. Either get a little more under in back swing or allow it to fall underneath in transition - more passive hands and arms.
@GarthOJАй бұрын
@@MichaelShinosky yeah I reckon my takeaway is just too much on top on the way back... Still trying to figure out why it's happening.
@MichaelShinoskyАй бұрын
You can swing the way you are but you're going to have to learn to hold off the release much later or that ball is going left. Later release allows for a very powerful and controlled pull fade. I'd look at Hogan for getting more underneath current back swing plane. You look like you're just picking up the club and not turning early enough in an attempt to get more width.
@@MichaelShinosky Interesting point about picking up the club... 🤔 Thanks for the input!

@@charlesal9787 😬 I just try to copy Tiger and try to swing smooth... 🤷♂️
@GarthOJАй бұрын
The main focus right now is to reduce sway off the ball, which should allow me to make a more connected shoulder turn. You can see that Tiger just "covers" the ball way better than I do, which just lets the swing flow without any saving. You can see me tilting back to save it, otherwise I'd hit the ground before the ball. Also, i think my setup is encouraging me to lean out of it at impact. Need to set up in such a way that my body would prefer to turn instead of swaying.
@GarthOJАй бұрын
Just working on hitting the inside half of the ball. Trying to play more and work on my swing less. Kinda surprised myself with how ok everything looks on course, from posture to ball position etc. but the alignment is an issue. Was trying to line up 3 yds right of this pin 💀

Really hard to hit a push draw with such an outside takeaway. Loads of re routing needed to get from the inside Gooo poop d drill for you would be to pit another ball 6 inches behind the one you’re hitting and move it away with the club head. It will keep the club head lower in the first movement then move up rather than out, laid off then ott when you pull your hands down 👍
@GarthOJАй бұрын
I agree the takeaway is pretty rough. The Nelly Drill? I actually do that drill sometimes. I ought to do it more often.
@tatchy1001Ай бұрын
@@GarthOJ it’s not much out but you just have that little correction at the top that moves it from slightly laid off to square which ironically causes the steeper shaft on the downswing. You’ve got great lower body movement through the ball and if you stayed in that slightly laid off you’d hit great fades . Keep at it though 👍
@tatchy1001Ай бұрын
@@GarthOJ I’ve always suffered from the same issue where I have too much rotation of the left forearm as the club hinges and I get slightly laid off is I’m not careful and I tend to flip it left. Another feeling that might help is feel like the hands work in a little more but have the feeling that the back of your left hand is almost Facing in front of you or even turned under as though it’s pointing to the ground. It will feel like Matt Wolf’s backswing but the shaft will get much steeper so when you swing down it won’t steepen more on you 👍
@GarthOJАй бұрын
@@tatchy1001 yeah I think you're pretty spot on. Generally I think I'm actually not too steep, it's just I'm laid off on the way back, and then rerouting as you said. If I were to improve my takeaway it would probably fix everything

1:15 is the one fade attempt of the day Highly recommend this drill to anyone that has an OTT move that theyre trying to reduce, or anyone with a steep swing. If you can just start it to the right with a draw, you're generally going in the right direction.

Using a feeling of keeping the right hand "behind" the momentum or force of the club. Keep the right hand aligned with the clubface and just square it up at impact. Also pushing into the lead leg to rotate better. At setup: working on hips over ankles (rather than over heels), club inside and up instead of (out and then behind).

The swing at 0:40 is from around the time I started trying to get shallow. Mainly the focus has been to reduce early extension and loss of posture, along with/tied to the steep and over the top move. Also I've worked on posture, trying to set up more stable and balanced. Adjusted the handle to be more in the fingers as opposed to the palms, which I feel has allowed more fluidity and improved the impact position via a smoother transition. Also did a lot of tempo and rhythm work, with some speed training here and there.
@rhandectАй бұрын
Swing looks great. I am getting back into golf and want to fix my early extension too. Club in fingers has been a great first step. What do you feel to get the left hip back?
@GarthOJАй бұрын
@@rhandect what works best for me is trying to imagine where the left hip will go as a result of pushing into the left foot. When you put pressure into the lead foot in a certain way (you have to just feel it out until it makes sense for you) your hip will automatically position itself as an effect of applying pressure into the ground. For me, if I sway my hips side to side, it's really hard to rotate them. I like to think of my weight transferring from foot to foot without my hips swaying. Also I've found that it feels like I need to push into the lead foot before the downswing starts.
@keepthetrashАй бұрын
Thank you for pointing out that this is when you started to shallow the club. Putting it at .25x speed, it's crazy to see how square your clubhead is at impact.

also mechanically your swing already looks very good and your impact looks good I think you should just start working on things like strike and hitting it out the centre of the face apart from positions cause I don't really see much wrong with the positions

Yeah I think it's mostly good, just little adjustments to make, here I was swinging pretty hard so the swing will be dicey. Spending most of my time on trajectory control and shot shape now
@rt33t392 ай бұрын
@@GarthOJ yeah cause i think when you try to fight the steepness it causing inconsistencies cause you lose focus on making good contact and then you have club face issues cause the more shallow you want to be the more open the face is next time you go and play/practice 100% just focus on contact and dont worry about what the club is doing in the downswing
@rt33t392 ай бұрын
i think the reason it comes down steep looking is because once you reach the top of your backswing your club looks slightly laid off so as it comes down it looks as if it has steepned but i wouldn't say you are steep on the downswing plane nelly korda has a similar move if you look at her swing dtl to fix this id get the club slighty more across the line then it will appear as if the club has shallowed
