The Bond Vigilantes may have caused Clinton to adapt his fiscal and tax plans, but the federal budget has not had an annual surplus since Clinton was in office. Perhaps Trumps executive orders will trigger a desire to follow constitutional boundaries, and checks and balances through the Legislative and Judicial Branches of government, offsetting Trump's Executive actions. If it has that result, bring it on! Restore the Constitution, return to Constitutional sound money, abolish the Federal Reserve and the IRS. Probably wishful thinking, yet to be determined. ???

As far as cutting the Federal budget it must be understood that Social Security is not funded by the general fund. All SS benefits are paid for by current workers FICA taxes, not income taxes. The shortfall is coming from the SS trust fund which, at current rates, will be drawn to zero in about 7 - 8 years. By law SS cannot be funded by the general fund or vice versa. In other words the funds cannot be co-mingled. You either must cut benefits or increase workers contributions or a combination of both.

I got 8.3% on gold and 9.4% on s and p. Tomato, tomatto. Good to have some of both.
