Owning all three, Ultra 5 mg, the Messi F50, and the Vapor 16's AG, I feel the Ultra's are the best by a big margin. At least for AG, where I play all of my matches. Experience in the Vapor 16's has been up and down. I have wide feet. On some days I feel fine in them, on others it's too much pressure. I think the raised feeling off the ground and the lack of lockdown from the upper spoils it for me. The Zoom air also adds a bit of pressure weirdly. Prefer the more grounded feel. The F50 Messi I thought would be ok for AG, but the studs do feel too long. Will need to trim them down with a dremel. The toebox is too low for me making my toes feel claustrophobic and the heel lockdown needs some work. The rubber pellets get inside quite easily as well.

Great episode. Just a bit of advice, I feel like Josh was cut off quite a bit and didn't get to speak or give his input as much as he wanted. Maybe it's just me, but it was the constant feeling I felt throughout the episode. Definitely need more of these podcasts though. The Ultra 5's I feel are very underrated. Much much better than the mercs in my opinion. More comfortable, grounded, and better lockdown and colourways. Mercs feel too squishy. And even the coating, it's more grippy than gripknit, which is the main selling point of the 16's. Not to mention the best AG soleplate. Puma really suck with their advertising. They are also better than the Messi's as well for me at the moment. The heel area of the F50's and the bowing aren't great. Looking forward to trying the Icons and Pure 3's once they drop in AG.

WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT HOW AWKWARD IT GOT ABOUT ASICS? it’s not even that hard to get ahold of some, you could find them for retail, even below retail, on eBay(~130$). Thats where I got mine and they are up at the top for me for performance AND comfort. As boot REVIEWERS, i could only hope to expect they WANT to expand the viewers’ knowledge on the best out there, and ASICS is there. EASILY better than this copa icon 2 everyone is raving about, which is way behind what they got in Japan. You both made it seem like they have beef with other countries’ markets(which is understandable) but i feel like this is a BIG topic for discussion that you guys decided to sweep under the rug for who knows why.
@BootNerdsАй бұрын
For me, it’s a matter of availability. I only review what we sell on the Unisport channel - for reasons that I guess are obvious - so the fact that Asics don’t want to sell to the European market makes that a tricky one. There’s no more drama to it than that. /Jay
@Gonapa58Ай бұрын
@manuelaguilar6305 I see where you're coming from but also Jay and Josh's position. This might be a longer reply so bear with me. Asics just couldn't compete outside of Asia so they cut their losses. They would not only have to compete with the big brands (Nike, etc.) but also Mizuno in the premium leather market, but importing to Europe, Americas already costs so much + they are weaker in those markets, which is why Mizuno has insane markups outside of Asia. In Japan Asics are the cheaper leather option vs Mizuno (top end Asics are around 140 Euros retail in Japan, while the top end Morelia 4 Betas are 200Eur and Morelia 4 MIJs are ~160). But Asics' selling point is being cheaper than Mizuno and still being really comfortable, which is hard to do outside of Asia, in markets dominated by Nike and Adidas and even competing with Puma, NB, Mizuno, etc.. Another reason they couldn't operate outside Asia is the names of their lines and silos are kinda confusing to anyone not familiar. They have 2 main lines inside the DS LIGHT mainline: the ACROS and X-Fly. But in those 2 lines there's the DS LIGHT X-FLY PRO series and X-FLY 5 series. The PRO3 (new release) is the continuation of the PRO2, but the X-FLY 5 is different. The PRO2/3 are speed k-leather while X-FLY 5 is the Morelia Neo 4 Non-Beta equivalent comfort/stability/adjustment. Then there's the ACROS Series, which has a mesh upper instead of kleather. ACROS 3 vs ACROS PRO3 series is also different, ACROS3 is lockdown mesh vs ACROS PRO3 being a speed focused boot. So the PROs for both ACROS and X-FLY are the speed boot silos while the regular numbers (5) are comfort and lockdown/stability silos. This is ignoring that DS LIGHT is the main line in Japan, but in Asia the 3 mainlines include Ultrezza and Menace, and ofc the DS LIGHT being the best seller. There's just way too much going on without much name difference for a lot of people even in Japan, so people just buy X-FLYs. Maybe their names transfer from their running shoes or something, but the naming scheme only makes sense after you know about all the X-FLY and ACROS lines. People even in Japan don't know what the "DS" stands for lmao I think the people into boots enough (boot nerds) will already know about Asics anyway and buy them, but tbh most consumers outside of Asia will not buy them unless they are boot enthusiasts. *TL;DR* I would highly recommend Asics, many like them even more than Mizunos (I think I prefer Mizuno though). But I also gave many reasons Josh and Jay don't review them + Josh only reviews boots accessible in official/flagship stores, and Jay ofc works for Unisport so he can only review boots from brands sold by Unisport. There are deals with brands etc. that he has to keep in mind. I think we can understand why Josh and Jay don't review Asics for now
@manuelaguilar6305Ай бұрын
@@Gonapa58 thanks for the read(honestly). as a self-proclaimed boot nerd, i thinks it makes sense to review even the outskirts of the boot-world, where it is less accessible, so that’s where (most) my argument was. Josh even reviewed the Kipstas which i know I won’t see anyone in, in the U.S. Also tho, in regards to ‘naming conventions’, i feel that it’s just as confusing with Nike, if not more so, with how the vapor and superfly are EXACTLY the same. The big 3 KINDA follow the same suit with that I guess too, but idk why people would have issues with naming. If you know your stuff and have money, you’re gonna research into the product line and pick what you want best. If you have no money, you’re gonna go for the cheap stuff that “looks” good or bang for buck, which is possible thru ASICS as you could find their stuff brand new on eBay. I’d say the demographic for MOST of who watches Jay Mike and josh are also bootnerds who also want the deets on the most recent, big products, as well as the niche stuff, as josh is willing to review on(or so i thought). He did Concave back then, where they were trying to make a name for themselves. In my opinion, i would like big reviewers other than Noah cavanaugh and lockhartbootblog to review these other brands besides the big 3 and mizuno. I understand JayMike’s POV with how he’s attached to the unisport shoreline, but if we can be honest, Josh, as a reviewer, is at the same POV for us, as viewers, as Noah and Lockhart, where he is one of us, wanting to try what’s best out there. I just feel that they are REALLY missing out on what they want from the big 3/mizuno😭
@manuelaguilar6305Ай бұрын
@@Gonapa58 looking at it from ASICS POV, i see them as assuming that if they were to try and push into markets outside of Asia, the big brands would counter them with their own variations similar to ASICS, IF they were deemed better by the general football demographic (which they are IMO). That itself is understandable for ASICS to not try with, but again, from the famed boot reviewers’ POV, it still makes sense to review the BEST, even if it isn’t available easily. Just my 2 cents
@chanchanicemanАй бұрын
@@manuelaguilar6305 as much as it’s frustrating for us to see Josh not being able to review Asics products,which I remember stated in his replies about resell markets especially if he gets the wrong size and return policies.. which is why I understand Josh’s POV.. Don’t worry I pretty much understand ur POV too so no worries about that

@RushStriker9Ай бұрын
I remember saying at release that if the F50+ had laces and not the obnoxious logon on the instep people would associate it with with the zero prime. If the upper was the Messi style upper then boom it sells out guaranteed imo

How would you compare the icon 2 to a nike tiempo legend 7 elite?
@chanchanicemanАй бұрын
I don’t think it’s a fair comparison given both are almost different The tiempo legend 7 elite was a good mix of traditional approach and modern design while the icon 2 is more along the lines of as Josh says in his videos the Morelia Neo or the older f50 adizero in leather uppers
@reanSWAАй бұрын
@ For me the Tiempo 7 was one of the best leather boots nike ever made, even better than the 9s. So that‘s were my thoughts come from. But I get your point.
@chanchanicemanАй бұрын
@@reanSWA as a long time wearer of tiempos,I do think the legend 7 is a good balance of tech and traditional classic approach plus a really good way of using leather uppers. I honestly have a soft spot for the legend 7 elites in fact I have a couple of pair that I got for collection after wearing the other 2-3 pairs to the ground. Would say the legend 7 cracks my top 5 favorite tiempos and I do Iove the legend 9 but prefer the legend 7 quote more and wouldn’t put in my top 5 neither
