Those were cool back in the day, and collectable now. But condition is an issue at this price point. Interior looks a bit worked and red is kind of a love it or leave color. Also don't care for the black spray-paint touchups on the undercarriage. If it were diesel you might really have something. Loved the old NA IH diesels. I owned an '89 which I cherished. But best of luck regardless.

@@FixdecayI’ve owned 19 OBS fords, 6 have had the 460. 10 is attainable but 8 is more believable than 12. That engines got 8 very hungry mouths to feed and the E4OD behind it is a marvel of inefficiency. However…Maybe, just maybe with a light foot, 3.55 gears, cruising at 55, 60 psi in the tires and a tailwind everywhere you go you could get 9.5 😂 But it looks like you’re at or near sea level, so that’ll help a bit. Out here in the Rockies we all know that 460s get 7. Still a nice truck though, but we all know she’s got an incurable love for the fuel.

Sorry you were having issues with the EFI. My 1989 F250, 5.8, C6, Gear Vendors overdrive, 10.25" 3.55 geared power Trax locking rear, 2WD. Extended cab has 322 thousand miles on the body, 150 thousand miles on the 1995 roller cam engine and my EFI still works great. I pulled my 27 ft. car trailer on a 2200-mile round trip back in April. The system really isn't hard to diagnose and work on but full discloser here, I am a mechanic, so I do my own work. What I would like to know is if your fuel economy improves. I only get around 14 miles per gallon on the Highway and 8 pulling my trailer.

I understand the frustration. Those old obd1 systems can be a bugger to diagnose. Get a carb cheater on there to really dial in the carburetor.

Australia here. I own an '83 Ford F100 that is a 6 cylinder 4 speed manual. Great truck, had it for years but I'm gettin a bit old and wish to convert it to an auto with a more powerful engine for towing. I bought an early '90's Windsor 5.8 litre V8 and auto trans ex-ambulance engine with its electronics and fuel injection intact but I'm very wary of the reliability of this set up. My mechanic says he can make it work but..... I'll be operating it in isolated farming country so I think it will have to be converted to run a carburettor. EFI is very fuel efficient and I'm aware it will be much heavier on fuel with a 4bbl. Economy verses reliability.....
@marcgottlieb5758Ай бұрын
Make sure you go with a C6 tranny or one not controlled by the ecu. Fuel economy is very close. I'm tracking it now.
@jaredlancaster4137Ай бұрын
90s EFI is not necessarily particularly efficient, and a 4 barrel carb is not necessarily fuel thirsty. If the carburetor is tuned well, you should expect little to no change in fuel economy. 90s EFI is also not necessarily unreliable at all. I would not expect a major difference in reliability between a well maintained EFI system and a well maintained carburetor. Both are good and legitimate systems if well maintained, and both should be reliable and efficient. You shouldn't be making any major performance tradeoffs for one system or the other.
@johnkauppi7078Ай бұрын
@@jaredlancaster4137 OK, thank you for that information. All I know is when these modern type motors don't run they have to be trucked to a place of repair. Points and carburetors I can fix. Also I'm thinking of the V8 351 Cleveland engines I've had in the past were heavy on fuel whereas the EFI 5.0 V8 in my old Fairlane I drive, gets very good mileage.

It was a decision that took 6 years. I brought it to multiple new and old school mechanics only to die on the road and three times in a very dangerous location. The last mechanic was an electrical specialist and still couldn't figure out the issue. He kept blaming it on previous hacks cutting things up. Last month I brought it to an old school mechanic in his late 50's who claimed it was a simple system and could figure it out. After two weeks in his shop he was stumped and I made the decision to go simple. I've now driven it 250 miles without an issue.

Good job. EFI SUCKS!!! I converted the 4.3L V6 EFI engine in my 1993 Chevy S-10 to a carburetor, and with some additional performance modifications, nearly doubled its power. The 4.3L V6 is almost exactly the same as the 5.7L V8 with 2 cylinders missing. I actually got low thirteens out of it in the 1/4 mile with no turbos and no nitrous. I have also converted three EFI motorcycles to carburetors. Two H-D Sportsters and a Royal Enfield Bullet 500. Carburetors are the only way to go.
@bigg4454Ай бұрын
@geraldscott4302 - Cool! I plan to do the same with my 2003 GMC Sonoma 4.3L V6 as replacement parts are gonna be "fun" to find when things start to go south. Now, the only thing I would do different is (maybe) consider a Holley Sniper EFI system. All that stuff is future considerations at this point tho'.

My first ride in a motor boat was an 18’ sidewinder with a 455 olds motor and a berkley jet drive. 30 years later while working a scrap yard, a guy backed up a boat trailer to scrap. I asked what boat use to be on it. He said, you probably never heard of it, but a sidewinder. I told him, you have a 1971 18’ sidewinder with a 455 olds motor and a berkley jet drive!
