This worked perfectly for me on my 2024 Model Y, software version 2024.21.05. Thanks for the detailed video, it really helped!! Sidenote about mounting position - if you have a small 10 mil wrench laying around, and you're stubborn and a glutton for punishment, you can manage to tighten the bolt from the other side. It just takes a lot of patience, and the willingness to risk dropping a tool somewhere into the front bumper area and potentially ruining your day. It helps if you have medium-sized hands - if you have giant hulk-hands, it's probably not worth the risk

This no longer works on 2024 software. I moved homelink adapter from 2020 MY to 2024 MY and got a "Failed to update HomeLink Configuration" error and confirmed in other posts that 2024 software update is the cause. Apparently Tesla Service has a way around it so I am waiting on that now.

Why Zip tie it when you can easily bolt it in place? And no you don't have to remove the bumper. Also you have the bracket for the home link facing the wrong side. If it is too difficult for you to mount the bracket in the front bolt it like most people in the back. It still will be more secure than a zip tie that will rattle and vibrate and eventually break. Sorry, that's not cool.
@cybslounge
@cybslounge 7 ай бұрын
I assure you it is very secure and snug. I couldn't bolt it with it facing backwards if you watched my previous video. This video was in part to advise people on the proper mounting position as the title states. I chose to zip tie it but you don't have to. What exactly is "not cool"?

I have a 2023 Dec MYLR. I followed this video for the install. TL;DR - The plug might not always be taped to the wiring loom. Removed the frunk and oh boy. I looked around and couldn't find the damn home link plug! It wasn't taped onto the wiring harness like this (and all other videos) show it to be. I looked and looked and didn't find it. I remembered reading a comment here saying that in their M3, it was somewhere in the middle. I looked and saw a plug taped in the middle. But it was short and wouldn't reach the home link module attachment point. And the plug itself was wrong. I thought Tesla forgot to install it (with my luck with cars, I wouldn't be surprised). I decided to look again and checked inside the panel on the right (when you look at the car into the frunk area). At the bottom, I saw the plug, just dangling away, not taped. It was dirty since it was exposed to the elements near the wheel well. So yes. If some of you don't see the plug taped to the wiring loom, look into the opening on the body panel on the right. It might be in there.

Very similar behavior to my 2022 model S center console. The sliding lid needs to be halfway open for the light to turn. The only difference is 1. My little tray light never turns on. 2. When I close the sliding completely, the light turns off 1-2 seconds later.
@main-ey9cy
@main-ey9cy 7 ай бұрын
Update: I took it to the local service center, and they replaced the entire center console. Its fixed and makes sense. Light only turns on when I slide open the lid any amount. Light turns off when lid is closed.

The reason you couldn't get the cap off of the plug is that you didn't have the red plug pulled back far enough. I just completed this installation on my Model Y and had the same trouble getting the cap off. I pulled the red clip back a little bit more and the cap came right off. Thanks for making this video for us.
@VeeElJay

True. Also, sometimes even with the lock released, it still might be tight. You need a small flathead screwdriver to wedge it gently under the lock clip (on the plug) and lock (on the protector). Lift the lock clip up slightly and pull on the plug to easily remove the plug.

Great video but my understanding is that the homelink needs to go on the front of the mount. Wondering if you have had any issues with the homelink working properly or every time. If not, then great. FYI if you mount it the proper way it is very hard to get the screw screwed on. I recommend a zip tie instead.
@cybslounge
@cybslounge 8 ай бұрын
You're correct! I made another video with a pinned comment pointing that out. I believe the homelink has a bidirectional antenna so it actually doesn't matter where it faces. I tested it facing the wrong direction and it functioned just fine
@VeeElJay
@VeeElJay 7 ай бұрын
It doesn't matter which direction it faces. Technically, depending on if you back your car in or drive head on into the garage, the door still opens. I have it installed this way (I tried getting it on the right way but I couldn't get the screw to stay there and couldn't get my wrench in there) and have zero issues. Works every time.

Maybe I'm just not understanding but is this just a way to spend ~$200 one time to add Homelink to a Tesla rather than pay $45 /year (or more for 5 or 10 years) for the MyQ service already available in the car? And possibly ~$20 to add MyQ to your opener if it isn't built-in? If so, the break even isn't for ~4 to 5 years?
@cybslounge
@cybslounge Жыл бұрын
The benefit to HomeLink is that it provides a way better experience than the MyQ system does. The HomeLink system is RF based. The MyQ system is Network based. The benefit to the RF based homelink is that it acts just like your garage remote would. It doesn't require any form of handshake sequences between the car and the garage door controller. You can also find the HomeLink module online for $100 -$170. The Handshake becomes the annoying part of the MyQ system for me. Since MyQ didn't change how the car talks to the Garage, it acts pretty much as how your phone does. In order for the garage door to close after you click "close", it will flash the light for 10 seconds(iirc) with a beeping noice before closing the door. What's interesting is that it doesn't take as long for opening it. There are other limitations to the MyQ also but i will keep it short. The HomeLink setup avoids a subscription service and provides a smoother experience. I don't know if the MyQ has this feature but you also get a button on the Tesla app to open and close your garage door. Hope i was able to answer your question. Thanks for watching!

I'm in the MyQ trial and auto open has always worked so far. I didn't realize it had auto close and frankly would not trust that to find out close never happened. I guess my fault for not knowing about auto close but it locked my electrician out of the garage while he was installing my charger. I went on an errand and did not manually close the door because he would be going in and out. But the door auto closed locking him out with his tools, etc, inside the garage, I was able top remotely open the door for him but not good. If I stay with MyQ, there better be a way to auto open but not auto close. If auto open fails, I can at least see that. If Auto close failed I'd drive away thinking the door was closed.
