The language rule that you could only sing in a nationally recognised language of the country was in place from 1966 - 1973 then again 1977 - 1999. Interestingly it was because in 1965 Sweden performed in English to the shock of others. Interestingly the language rule did lead to a lot of Northern European countries Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany whose native languages have a lot of closed syllables and guttural sounds - tended to be in the bottom half of the results. Finnish which is a non-indo-european language does have open syllables but doesn't have any voiced consonants so it has a slight grating sound plus it is not a widely understood language. So they were stuffed. My favourite "language" at Eurovision was the 2003 Belgian entry where Urban Trad performed a song in a made up language it came second.

Yeah, I think she improved beyond anyone's imagination. 3rd place in semi-final and 8th place in televoting in grand finale. Definitely the biggest surprise of the whole season.

My darling Blanka was not the one what won Polish selection ! Different person won Poland Eurovision selection she new she is winner before voting started Polish TVP throw lots money to improve her image and performance ! If she did not go to finals that would be very unpleasant for her after her return She did well ! I am glad that the hate forward her is ended and she can enjoyed the festival If she sing like that on selection the whole drama could be avoided !

I actually like it when they keep the original performance, but I also wished there was something different in it as well, I agree with you on that

My preferences this year are unusual- quite a surprise! I don't see a song with a strong message like Jamal, or a brave unique all about a music Italien band from'21. I think during a current years where we all are facing heavy effects on our mentality and emotions...a feel as a unity- whole Europe is the time to choose a song which gives us easiness! Saying that Belgium made me see a picture where every country would blast this song and can relate to it. Also Poland gave us colors, reminded of sunny days worth appreciation, I think a solo' message can be good for current days where singles still struggle with judgemental opinion. And the dance is really uniting too!!! The routine we all can repeat- makes me thing- yeah let's all dance and chill out a least when we got a music on! France is another one, with a club vibe- it is a nice mixture... I used to think there must be the best voice. But really changed my approach. It is best SONG contest chosen by whole Europe so it should relate to all of us somehow... Sweden she is a rocket but I can not help the fact her song (the begging part )is reminding me of ABBA, so feels a but a of remix- and that puts me off). Also it is not that unique when compared against the top hits of this sort. Israel- stunning singer, dancer, performer- but a song itself? Not really anything better, unique or what I haven't heard yet. Spain, Albania so unique- however I would not say this could appeal to everyone. And it is about appealing to majority! Norway- a great song, but not a representative of Europe as 1st place in Mt opinion. Italian signer, very touching, but too melancholic for this era. I think we need something light! So Poland Belgium France- they got the vibe and delivered! So here we go!
