@wikiarquitecturaАй бұрын
100%! We need more of what these amazing women brought to architecture. I think things are moving in the right direction (slowly), but it's probably going to take generations to see a significant impact.

Thank for your video. Sadly, entrance to the park is limited and tourists are forced to pay to enter! I would have thought the park was there for all! A busy time, too many tourists so I was glad to watch your video. Thhanks
@wikiarquitecturaАй бұрын
Hi Elizabeth! As happy as I am my video allowed you to "discover" the park, I'm sorry you didn't get to experience it firsthand. I agree, that it's a difficult situation... Barcelona, in general, is becoming a city for tourists. As a local, I remember being able to go to Park Güell with my friends as a kid just to hang out there. Now that's completely impossible, as you pointed out. Sometimes I fear Barcelona will end up becoming a museum city, like Venice, where it's almost impossible for any locals to live. I've actually written extensively about that in my newsletter architecturetopics.com/en/#ny-vs-venice Anyway, Barcelona is still far from reaching the levels of Venice, but the situation is definitely worse than it was just a decade ago, and it's tricky because a lot of the city's economy is now built around tourism. I'm not as naive as to think we should forbid tourism or anything like that... to be honest I'm not sure what the solution is, but it's definitely something that needs to be addressed.
I am wondering, what is the reason for organicly shaped spaces like atrium and other microspaces in interior of the buidling? If I am buidling a concept why is per example organic form better then the square one? Thank you for the video!
@wikiarquitectura6 ай бұрын
Hey @mislavification. I wouldn't say that organic shapes are better, or worse. I think what makes this building interesting is that they took one idea and they pushed it to its limits. In our opinion, when a project does that the results are always interesting and worth studying. This does not mean all buildings should be one way or another though. In this particular place, for this particular brief, and with a healthy budget SANAA's solutions seemed to works pretty well, but each project is different.
@mislavification6 ай бұрын
Thank you for quick response, yes I do agree. But I am wondering how can one define the reason beneath the organic form , not for this exact project ?

The dragon represents the story of Sant Jordi (Saint George. A roman soldier that killed the dragon to save the town) the Saint of Catalonia
@wikiarquitectura9 ай бұрын
Yes, the legend of Sant Jordi runs deep in Catalan culture, and Gaudí sure was thinking about it when he designed this fountain, but I don’t think he meant it as a literal representation of Sant Jordi’s dragon, which is commonly characterized as a big, scary creature. Instead, his statue represents a more common lizard (gecko), which are very common in the Mediterranean seaside, and geckos just so happen to be called “dracs” (dragons) in Catalan, which in my opinion made it the perfect symbolic riddle which Gaudí was so fond of, and which his works are filled with.

Hola. Hay alguna regla o norma que tuvo que seguir Le Corbusier a la hora de la construcción?
@wikiarquitectura9 ай бұрын
La verdad es que lo desconozco. Seguramente el cliente dió algún tipo de indicación, pero dudo mucho que jamás se imaginaran un edificio como el que terminó siendo. A priori no parece que Le Corbusier se haya encontrado con muchas restricciones.
@CGChaithanyaJAAT10 ай бұрын
do they have solar panels ?
@wikiarquitectura8 ай бұрын
Not that I recall. However, the building is highly sustainable. Always keep in mind there isn't just one way to approach sustainability, and while solar panels are a great solution, solar panels by themselves don't make a building sustainable, and a building without them isn't necessarily unsustainable.

Hi there! There's a good iamge of the roof's construction on this video at around minute 7:14. You can also find more photos here: en.wikiarquitectura.com/building/chapel-of-notre-dame-du-haut/ . Although we were obviously not allowed on the roof during our visit you might still find some photos that can help you better understand the building.

Hola.

Hello! Is there any influences on the design of the walls that may be made because of light or to separate places?
@wikiarquitectura2 жыл бұрын
Hello Martin! Not sure I completely understand your question, but sure, the south wall is definitely all about the light that comes in through the tinted windows, and the way in which the walls “fold” to create the secondary altars is a very clever way of creating more private spaces without the need for doors or other kind of divisions.

What part of the park is free?
@wikiarquitectura2 жыл бұрын
You need to get a ticket to access the main square and the sala hipóstila (except on some special occasions). The rest of the park, which is most of it, is free for anyone to visit just like any other public park of the city. So, if you are a neighbor and just want to enjoy a walk in the nature there is plenty of space to do so at no cost, however if you are just visiting the park as a tourist you will probably want to get the ticket to see the most relevant, and famous spots.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm currently studying for my final exams which will allow me to go to college and one of the exams is about art (I chose it myself). We have like 30 great artworks (paintings, sculptures and buildings), that span from antiquity to modernity and one of those is this incredible building. I'll have to write an essay about one out 30, but I feel no pressure thanks to you and many other creators that have great reviews. Again, thank you <3

the concept of "Free plan" has its limits in collective housing, even for a prodigious mind like Mies, as explained by Jacques Lucan in this lecture "Habiter" (min 25:30): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnPTpIebmtyef9k

Not sure if Mies would have been happy to know that all the grocery store, hard ware shops and other spaces without specific quality base on that concept. As intellectual thought interesting, but at the end none of Mies spaces was an real universal space, they had a specific precision, and if anything gets changed the quality of the spaces would change dramatically. Maybe the universal space is pure theorie, since the architecture by Mies gets interesting where this universal space looses its randomness. Fun videos
@wikiarquitectura2 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. There are very few (quality) spaces which you could turn into something else over night and be done, yet some are easier to adapt than others. Two iconic buildings that have been recently talked about come to mind, the Nakagin Tower and Eskenazi School of Art. The Nakagin tower is on the extreme of non-universal spaces. Can you imagine turning the Nakagin tower into anything else than what it was? On the other hand the Eskenazi School of Art was originally designed by Mies in 1952 as a fraternity and with some modifications it was recently constructed to serve as a school of art. Some spaces can be repurposed with some interventions, others can’t. Maybe that’s what Mies meant when he talked about Universal Space. Maybe it’s an ideal to aim for but that can never be reached…
