Great to hear about the work Jasmine has started in Manila. I have lived and done missions in the Philippines for many years over the years starting in 1985. I presently “care for a place” (live) in the southern Gulf Islands in BC where I built a cabin which is part of a village that is in a community that has connections with Regent College and Arocha. Wonderful to see a creation project that connects the two places (Canada and the Philippines).

Wow! Incredibly produced and inspirational video! Thanks for making this and sharing. I'm ashamed to say I've lived in Langley most of my life and until I got acquainted with A Rocha I knew nothing about the Semiahmoo people. With this initiative, how soon do you estimate clam harvesting can start again?
@arochacanada2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment, Walter! Here is a response from our Conservation Science Director, Christy Juteau: That's a hard question to answer. At this point, we're still trying to understand where the most significant sources of contamination are coming from and beginning to address these sources. I'm hopeful that we will see Semiahmoo First Nation harvesting clams again within my lifetime. Hopefully within the next ten years. But this is one of those problems we call "wicked" because it is complex and depends on so many different factors to reach success. And even then, we will have to maintain vigilance to keep water quality conditions at a high standard for shellfish harvest to continue safely.

Thank you for this insightful and inspiring interview. I have listened to it a few times, gleaning so many gems from it. As my mindset changes regarding theology and the environment I have a couple of questions. I like the idea that Christ's work is the "salvation of the cosmos" not just humanity, but doesn't Scripture point to humankind on a different level or have a different status than the rest of creation? Second: Dr Grey says "God's not going to fold up the earth and put it away at the end of the age" How does that fit with 2 Peter 3:10 and Revelation 21 where the "new heaven and the new earth" is described.

My question is, do you, Carmody, find hope in the attitudes of our young people about caring for the environment/creation. It seems to me that many, many of the upcoming generation care profoundly and are willing to take action, become vegetarian, grow food, shop local, ride a bike etc. etc. Is this just my kids and who they hang out with, or is it a broad movement that can also bring us hope?

Wow. Thank you so much for this! I am deep diving in the permaculture and regenerative agriculture world and the variations of narratives as to humanity's relationship with nature (creation). The stories we tell about how the world came to be, why the world exists, what our purpose is on earth, and where we go in the end is so foundational to what/why we do what we do. Several different narratives do seem to converge on the basic ethics that form permaculture: earth care, people care and future care. I love the common ground from which to move forward on a practical level, however I find that the voice of the Christian narrative (as you have described here) is vastly lacking. As I continue to study and work in permaculture design, regenerative agriculture and rebuilding soil health, I want to be able to share the hope that we have in Christ and tell the story of His redeeming work for all creation. I would love to learn how to better explain the 'theology at the street level'. Can you direct me to further resources or conversations? Thanks!
