What do you do when the RSI and the MACDHistogram give conflicting signals? Should I not use the two together?
@tradertalkswebcasts21 сағат бұрын
Great question! This sort of indicator conflict is a conundrum that a trader should expect to encounter regularly when more than one technical study is employed. When such a conflict arises, the trader has a number of choices to be considered: 1. Move on to a chart with no conflict. (This is likely the most common action, in my experience.) 2. Assign priority to one or the other of the two studies. 3. Remove one study from future charts. 4. Use a different combination of studies, etc. You can see why technical analysis is a constant effort in experimentation, education, and plan refinement, and why each trader should likely have their own set of rules governing how such conflicts will be resolved. So, which of these approaches is "best" for you? That's a decision I'll have to leave to the trader. In any event, thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next one! ^CM

Once “buy the dip” no longer works and we fail to make new highs, investors will look at other places to put their money. With the long bond at near record highs for the post Great Financial Crisis period, you get a risk free return that is extremely competitive with equities. Also, institutional, insider, and “whale” selling is intensifying. The proposed policies by the incoming administration, will not be good for equities and could very well lead us into recession by Q2 or 3 of next year. I’ve been trading for over 45 years and have never seen an everything bubble, like we are experiencing now. There are times when you have to consider fundamentals and this is one of them. The crypto and NFT space are worse than ever. One token called “Fartcoin” just surpassed 1.2 billion in valuation. One crypto billionaire, Justin Sun, paid 6 million for a banana duct taped to a piece of drywall, then ate the banana. This is going to end badly Barb. Dr. Michael Burry of “The Big Short” fame, saw the housing bubble developing in 2005 when he began to bet against it with credit default swaps. He eventually made 100 million for himself and 700 million for his investors in Scion Capital Management. I’ve been increasing my short positions mainly in tech, and when I begin to question my judgement, I remember what he said, “I may be early, but I’m not wrong.”

This information from the thinkorswim Learning Center might be helpful: "In thinkorswim, you are provided with a number of default keyboard shortcuts that enable you to navigate between components or perform tasks without using a pointing device. To make your thinkorswim experience even more convenient, you can customize the list of key combinations to be used for certain commands. To customize the keyboard shortcuts: Press Setup in the top right corner of the window and choose Application Settings... from the menu. In the dialog window, choose the Hot keys tab. In the Hot keys dialog, you will see the list of commands split up into the following categories: General, Active Trader, WatchList, Chart, and thinkScript Editor. Each of these categories shows a number of commands you can create or customize shortcuts for. Click on the command you would like to customize the shortcut for. In the pane to the right, you will see the description of the command and the shortcut assigned to it (if any). To add or change the shortcut, choose Custom and specify the base key(s) for the combination: Ctrl, Alt, and/or Shift. Then select an additional key from the dropdown. If the combination you specified is already assigned to another command, you will see a notification. Clicking Reassign in this notification will discard the former hot key combination and assign it to the selected command. To remove the shortcut, choose None. You can also disable all shortcuts for a category by un-checking Enabled in its title. You can also restore default values for all hot keys by clicking Set all to defaults. When you have finished customizing your hot key combinations, click Apply settings. You can also view tooltips for hot keys directly in the application. Pressing any of the base keys (Ctrl, Alt, Shift) will display tooltips with additional keys next to components that are assigned a shortcut. Pressing the base key(s) with the additional one will redirect you to the corresponding component. Note that in order to view the hot key tooltips, you need to activate them in the Hot keys dialog first." ^CM

This is a time when you can’t ignore fundamentals. The 10 yr Treasury has risen by almost a point so since the rate cuts began in September. The yield curve is now in contango, which is going to put pressure on the equity markets, housing, automobiles, and consumer loans. Historically after a yield curve has gone from inverted to normal, a recession has followed 6-12 months later with a major correction in stocks. In 2000, 2008, and 2020, the S&P lost almost 50%. If the market fails to make new highs by mid-January, falls, and takes out the old lows, there is going to be a lot of choppiness with a downward bias. This is when trading becomes really difficult as traders found out during the market correction of 2021-2022. I’ve been a Schwab client since 1978 and used TradeStation in the 1990s and SSE until TOS was adopted. It has a study similar to Market Profile called Monkey Bars, but there is very little information on how to use this variation of MP. It would be most helpful if someone on the coaching team could do a series on how to use the Monkey Bars.

Hi Cameron, can I use this strategy to do day trading, apply these indicators on 15 or 5 minute charts? Thanks
@tradertalkswebcastsКүн бұрын
Good question! As with most technical techniques, these strategies can theoretically be applied across a range of timeframes, including intra-day. Of course, regardless of timeframe, no technical approach carries a guarantee of performance on any given trade. Thanks for watching! ^CM

comment on ( CLOSING PRICE) it is not really that good unless that's what U need what's BAD about it is if U have a Sell order sell if greater then 5% within 1 BAR AND THE PRICE gets to 10% but closes even U made nothing why using the close prevents from intra BAR Trading U get the signal at the Close . what is your opinion on a scan for day trading single call or puts?
@tradertalkswebcastsКүн бұрын
Hi Allout. There are a lot of scans that are built into the thinkorswim platform under public stock hacker that might be helpful. They include things like gaps up and down, % Change Gainers and Losers, plus many others. Keep in mind that you want to trade those tickers with a lot of open interest. Practice a lot of paper trading as you develop a system that might work for you. ^CH

How to use the Option Scan on the desktop app?3
@tradertalkswebcastsКүн бұрын
You use the Option Hacker the same way you use the Stock Hacker, except the filters are for options data (instead of stock data), and the results will give you individual option contracts rather than the underlying stocks. Most option traders prefer to look for the underlying stock, but if you want to look for specific option contracts then it may be valuable for you. I don't have a webcast on the Option Hacker, but here is a link on how to use the Stock Hacker: kzbin.infonPMoE8EIwPw?feature=share ^BM

on min 24 - you're trend line is sma 100 what if we are using support or resistance? or is using the 200 sma the best ?
@tradertalkswebcasts4 күн бұрын
To clarify, moving averages are commonly used as indications of potential trend or support and resistance - or both. So if one is already using it for support and resistance purposes, it would not normally be viewed as a conflict to also use it for trend-identification. As to whether one might use the 100- or 200-SMA, this generally falls to the intended timeframe of the trade: Longer trades typically emphasize longer moving averages, not that one is inherently "better" than another. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching! ^CM

Your group is outstanding in providing trading education. Since there are so many good videos, may we suggest 1) organizing the 'Trader Talks' playlists into fewer main categories. For example, "Long Options" can be in 10 different playlists, depending on the presentor. 2) Have more "How do I..." or "Where do I find.." on the thinkorswim platform, like a visual glossary. You did this for "Using thinkorswim Desktop's Chart Drawing Tools". Yet let's say we want to see the various ways we can place a long option in just 15 seconds each way (without discussing the underlying stock). We came from more visual platforms to now thinkorswim and all the form boxes, categories, drop-down boxes are a challenge for us using thinkorswim. Thank you.
