Hello Connie, when we talk about the numbers for the Dow, SP, Nas, Russel etc, what do those numbers represent and how are they calculated? For example, lets say the Dow closed today at 42,300, what does that number represent? I always thought it is/was dollars but I'm not sure. If it is dollars, how are they calculated?

I always appreciate your coaches. I just started learning Futures and want to set up the same studies as you did. But I don't have HullMACloud, Shared_Shared_PotentialEntrySetups. And a Script for Futures: Tick Size, Tick Value, Point Value, and Hull Bars. Could you inform me of the Stuedies and Scripts in the comments? Or can I see that you'd exercise the Studies and Scripts set up in one of your webcasts? Thanks again!

For illustration and comparison, can I do a 310/315 Call Vertical vs. 310/315 Put Vertical? My max profit approx the same, correct +/- $$. Except I have a debit for the Call placed versus credit for Put.

@tradertalkswebcasts2 күн бұрын
Hi Blackhawk. One common way to add a stop loss is to do a right mouse click/create closing order/Sell (the position). Now on the Order Entry screen you could change the limit order to the desired stop type. You have four choices. Many will also change the time in force to GTC so they don't have to set it up every day. Hit Confirm and send. ^CH

Hi Barbara - Thank you for all you do! i fell out of the webcasts for the rest of the year and as i am planning to get more committed for 2025, i am a little overwhelmed in a good way with the amount of content you guys are providing to us! I love your teaching style and i want to connect for your classes and trade along all 2025 together, can you please recommend me a plan for this goal? Is there already 2025 class schedule for you? I have taken all the available options and stocks trading courses at the planform over the last 4 years and have a good understanding of terminology of different things. I want to explain my skills and become a better trader. Thank you!

Curious on when to implement a Call vs Put calendar? Is it simply to prevent having your short leg from being in the money with so close an expiration, or some other consideration?
@tradertalkswebcasts4 күн бұрын
There is not a lot of difference between the two. When you compare (with equal strikes) the reward/risk is typically almost the same and the Greeks are similar. So it really comes down to being ITM or OTM. OTM have lower chance of early assignment and often better bid/ask spreads. ^BM

Thank you Barbara. I bought my first Long Call on 4 November. Election Play on TSLA. BUY $300 Strike Exp 4/17/25 at $18.65 Yesterday TSLA closed at $346 If TSLA stays at $346 into 2025 is there a 'general rule of thumb' as to how the value of the Option may reduce in value over time, if Volatility is flat? Thank you 🙏
@079735592033 күн бұрын
Am I correct in thinking I wouldn't get less than $2735 less any charges? $346 - $300 = 46 x 100 = $4600 $4600 - $1865 = $2735 PS. I'm not a bot 🙂

All of Schwab coaches are fabulous. I have learned so much about trading attending webcast.Thank you very much for all the hard work you folks do The question i have is that when you want to compare LCV vs SPV then why don't you use the same delta to sell the short leg of the SPV as you use the delta for long leg of LCV? In both cases we would like the stock to move up to get gain. With same delta of long leg of LCV and short leg of SPV, If the stock moves up then SPV will yield gain sooner then LCV? If the stocks move down even then i think you would get less loss with SPV. Any thoughts on this?
@tradertalkswebcasts4 күн бұрын
The strikes we chose for these 2 strategies are based on the example trading plans. With the Long Call Vertical Strategy, we tend to choose strikes that bracket the current price of the stock which makes the trade less directional. The Short Put Verticals strikes are selected based on recent support levels where the goal is for the short strike to be below the support level. Although delta can be a consideration, it is not the primary driver in choosing the strike prices. ^Barb

Hello BA: Love your classes and have been diligently following you and JB for about 5 years trying to combine the best of BA and JB. My question is on BAC which we exited at (time 37:43) on the 11-15-24 class. I still do not see what the big deal is on covered calls. Here the stock profited 701.27, but yet the covered call went down and lost (314.50) leaving us with a profit of only 386.77 instead of 701.27. Am I missing something? It seems to me that JB only uses covered calls as a "defensive mechanism" at resistance (trend 4), and not as an investment mechanism. Can I assume that if I am trying to "trade the trend" that covered calls may not be something for me to ideally consider if I am only going to be in a trade for days to weeks, and that covered calls are more appropriate for trades I wish to stay in for a longer period of time, such as weeks to months? Thank you
@tradertalkswebcasts5 күн бұрын
Thomas, I understand your confusion. Covered Calls and Buy Write Covered calls can be used for a number of different purposes. I will discuss this in more detail in Trading a Smaller Account on November 22. However, if you are trying to trade the trend, one way that some traders might use a buy write covered call is to enter this trade with the GOAL of being called out. Essentially, doing a swing trade and being paid (via the covered call) to sell the stock after a short period of time. There are times when the stock might go quite a distance past the sold strike. As I have often said, there is to be no 'moaning and groaning' about how much more the trader might have made. The idea being that the goal is to be called out and end up with a return (which although capped) is deemed satisfactory. The expectation is that the stock will be trading above the sold strike by expiration. In other words, some traders might use this as a short term growth or income generating strategy. If the trader's goal is to buy the stock and hold it for a long period of time, the buy write covered call or selling a covered call is likely not an appropriate strategy. I hope this makes sense. If not, ask me another question and I'll provide further clarification. ^Barb

@@tradertalkswebcasts I guess my confusion is, if the value of the stock goes up, it seems many times, as in the case with BAC the value of the covered call went down, and subtracted from the net profits of the long stock trade. ( 701.27 stock profit) - (covered call decrease -314.50) = $386.77. In this case we surrendered 314.50 of profit. Am I wrong to look at it this way?
@randythayer87542 күн бұрын
@@thomasdunlap4401 Unless the ending stock price was higher than the covered call, you can keep both the stock's advance profit and the call premium. If the stock's price does pierce the call, the stock will be called away (assuming you already owned the shares and not synthetic), but you will keep BOTH the stock's profit and call credit as well. If you do this on purpose it's called a buy-write covered call (short-term profit generator). If you buy certain company stocks by the x-dividend date; you can arrange a buy-write to collect potential stock advance, call premium, and dividend all at once (must buy blocks of 100 shares at least).
