Ugh...tone deaf. Worst version of this classic ever. What out of their mind A&R guy back in the 80s talked his record company into losing money on this dreck?

Oh wow, this is a very interesting performance - you have to be so brave in this piece and she is certainly that, as well as thoughtful. I love my Steven Isserlis / St. Louis Symphony recording from years ago, haven't heard another performance I liked half so well, but this is definitely up there. Orchestra is fantastic. ❤

Sunday is gloomy My hours are slumberless Dearest the shadows I live with are numberless Little white flowers Will never awaken you Not where the black coach Of sorrow has taken you Angels have no thoughts Of ever returning you Would they be angry If I thought of joining you? Sunday is gloomy With shadows, I spend it all My heart and I Have decided to end it all Soon there'll be candles And prayers that are said I know But let them not weep Let them know that I'm glad to go Death is no dream For in death I'm caressing you With the last breath of my soul I'll be blessing you Gloomy Sunday

there's no other cello concerto that allows such a full encompassing voice of the cello, to be expressed in a single piece, that is also supported so wonderfully by the orchestra. to have such a true partnership in a concerto is for me surprisingly rare. barber is a genius who composed with great courage; that same courage is also required when performing. Reticence to engage this piece to its extremes often results in bland confusion and genius lost.

Probably the most genuinely suicidal-sounding version of this song. Lady Day sounded sombre and contemplative, but Lydia sounds like she's already up on the chair with the noose around her neck.

Same script used in the December 18, 1949 broadcast. The final season of the "LUX RADIO THEATRE" reused many scripts, for budgetary reasons. In fact, Lever Brothers cancelled the series three months later in order to concentrate on "LUX VIDEO THEATRE" (also on NBC).

Happy Birthday Clem Clempson born on September 5, 1949. He is an English rock guitarist who has played as a member in a number of bands including Colosseum and Humble Pie. Clempson began his career in the late 1960s with the power trio, Bakerloo (originally The Bakerloo Blues Line), playing blues-rock. In 1969, he joined Colosseum, until they disbanded in 1971. After Colosseum's split he went on to join Humble Pie in 1971, replacing Peter Frampton. When the band split in 1975 he and Greg Ridley joined drummer Cozy Powell to form Strange Brew. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clem_Clempson

Those records were everywhere once; anonymous cover records that some people would think were originals. My first record was a Monkees record like that; like this one there was no title and no personnel listed whatsoever. I liked it.

If I remember correctly, I was with my late older brother when I first heard this song. He was a true 'almost famous' rocker. He recorded for some major labels, and worked with some major rock n roll people, but alas he never quite made it himself as a rock star. I used to do guest vocals with his band, including a rousing rendition of 'Jaihouse Rock'. At the time, my brother had a 'roadie' who worked for him, who also worked the sound board. His name is Jonathan. He eventually found himself working for Peter Frampton. On the day of the Reagan landslide, 1980, Peter Frampton sent him to South America in search of his favorite, lost, Les Paul; the very one on the cover of the 'Frampton' album, which he made after leaving Humble Pie. Is it just a coincidence that, on the day of the Reagan landslide, 1980, I was in the county jail, right outside of Wash., D.C. I did three weeks. I got time off for good behaviour. True story, folks. Dare I say there's a moral to it, too!

@@paulman9989 Back in '70/'71, my late older brother was a guitarist in The Buddy Miles Band. They opened for The Grateful Dead a couple of times, a time or two at The Winterland Theatre, San Francisco, where much of 'Frampton Comes Alive' was recorded. Paul, I'm sure you remember the song-'Truckin'? "What a long, strange, trip it's been", indeed! At the time, '70/'71, I was at a boarding school in New Hampshire with Judy Collins' kid sister. Also, at the time, big sister Suite Judy Blues Eyes had a top 20 hit with her version of 'Amazing Grace'.
