Logically, matched makes more sense. Traditional was only for old drums on slings, and it passed over.

Good lesson, straightforward and easy. Will make anyone with two healthy hands play the money beat at the end. The plus is that you can replay the video as many times as you want, until you get it right.

Let's go! This is a great starting out point for learning how to create music. Eventually I'll be able to do more than just the money beat with simple fills like kick, kick, kick, kick, crash, snare.

how long would it take the average person with zero experience to play this beat?

Minutes. I teach this in my very first lesson with all new students. Even as young as 8 years old.

Great lesson here, Chris, thank you for all the handy info! I've just started out on playing drums (I'm primarily a guitar player). I'm way into Creedence Clearwater Revival, so when it comes to drums, that's my influence. Doug Clifford played with traditional grip, so, it seemed natural for me to go that way, too. I don't think one way is better than the other, it's mainly preference. Personally, I like the traditional grip. I think the drummer in Ultravox played with traditional grip too (??).

Neil Peart was tired of the matched grip he actually re taught himself and was schooled and mentored by a jazz musian (Freddy Gruber) and it increased the power and sounds of some of those hits! He goes between them as well on songs.

Not agree @ hit hard, you can do it also in Tradicional Grip, Mitch the Hendrix drummer was a tradicional Gripper that hitted like a Scannia Truck.

I've been a Jazz drummer for several years at this point and I chose to use matched grip. I've never had any issues with getting grace notes. I think it has to do with our comfort zone from a technique stand point.

What if your pedal doesn't have the little groove thing to move the beaters closer or further from the drum set? Because I'm pretty sure my pedal doesn't have that groove thing.
@DrumTalk7510 жыл бұрын
Hey there Marcos. Most pedals have some sort of adjustment for this. If you can post a picture of your pedal or give me a model/number I may be able to help you out.

Hey Chris . Nice video. Helpful. But i'm not a beginner tho. One thing that troubles me and i need help with is tension settings for fast double bass playing. man im going crazy trying to figure out. Pls help me!! Also i dnt have a really high end pedal as urs. so i dnt have the chain adjustmet. :\ Man this is like a terrible obstacle in my progress. Any help u can offer ?
@dedangel1311 жыл бұрын
ive had this same pedal for years and have never had the patience to figure out all the ways to adjust it until this wk, it has been frustrating the hell out of me to the point where I don't even want to play after trying to get a comfortable position (and failing). this video really makes it easier to understand, thank you so much for making this!

@DrumTalk7511 жыл бұрын
You got it! Glad to hear it is helping you trouble shoot some of your dbl. pedal adjustment issues. Another tip I can give you is to periodically shoot all the hinges and moving parts with a silicone spray. I just did this with my dw 9000 pedals and they feel brand new. DO NOT USE WD40! This will collect dust and make it stick to the moving parts and gunk up the whole pedal.

@robertboney44936 жыл бұрын
Don't twirl the sticks. Show boating is not playing drums.
@bzeliotis12 жыл бұрын
Actually this sounds like a 2/4 beat, not a 4/4 beat. Because you play the bass drum both on the 1 and the 3 it sounds and feels like 2/4 (marching rhythm). But, if you only played the base only on the 1 (and not on the 3) then it would feel like a cycle of 4/4.
@Ferderberdrums4 жыл бұрын
definitely 4/4
@bzeliotis4 жыл бұрын
@@Ferderberdrums The way it's played there's no difference between the 1 and the 3, that's why it feels like 2/4! The 3 is meant to be softer than the 1.
@Retfie719 Жыл бұрын
Rubbish, sorry. I get what you meant (a decade ago), but it's just not how it is looked at in pop music lol. 3 might be softer on the bass drum, but you did actually say not playing at all
@jsr98706 Жыл бұрын
Im no drummer but I know If I mapped this beat in ableton it would come out 4/4 so I don’t think your correct . Maybe in perspective you could be cause music theory is just theory. but just cause you play the bass pedal twice doesn’t make it 2/4 like logically speaking. If you are curious for an example look into the dubstep sub genre “riddim” . It is 140bpm and produced at 4/4 time and the kick on 1 and 3 and snare on 3. This is accepted as industrial fact at least in the edm scene which I would imagine would still apply to this.
