Tom has more integrity than I have seen in a police officer for along time. He started out wanting to help people and even after all this trauma he still wants just to help people.

Love the interaction / conversations between the two of you as much as when you have a guest. 2 very different fellas with such a great friendship bond..... with a lot of trust. Very rare nowadays. I think as we get older we learn so much about real friendship. We have less of them, but much stronger bonds. Life experience teaches us so much about building bonds and learning when to fuck people off rather than building numbers of fake friendships, which ultimately leads to loneliness.

Great episode. Reframing something in a positive light isn't always easy or even possible, but always worth trying if you can. As you said, it's pointless towards others you don't know as it doesn't help anyone. But the main thing is that it benefits your own mental wellbeing and ultimately your physical health. It's a tough thing to learn as we're predisposed to negativity as a species. By reframing, we can let things go that are out of control. No point in hanging on to something that will eat away inside of us. Harder at times like Jim's example when someone puts you and your child at risk.

I have kept objects from my grands-parents & parents house when they passed & that's when I realised that objects tell me our story (or my own story with my own objects) better than pictures. Also, I never bought much stuff but it has accumulated over the years. End story is I dont like empty / minimalist spaces, they seem impersonal, stingy.
@jimdistortionuk16 күн бұрын
sometimes as i hope i mentioned its not about things its about your mind the way you think and not over complication. A lot of people find clutter influences their mood but if your items help you remember thats truly amazing!

We all have a tendency to take on to much in life . Minimalistic life style isn't just clutter in our house or work space ,but when we have a good clean up or spring clean it makes us feel better .. But have time out away from phones and work also makes us feel better . Make time for your self. Ride a motorbike Go fishing Go camping Ignor my phone on Sundays.. thats my de cluttering ethic ..

Sorry for your loss. Great insights as always guys. For me minimalism isn't about that ascetic monk (eg. 30 items in a backpack) aesthetic stuff, it's about being intentional. You look at your personal values and lifestyle needs, keep the stuff/friendships/emails/obligations etc that serve those aspects, then free yourself from the rest. You can keep whatever bits you truly want, but you can't keep it ALL... Like how museums and galleries have curated (intentional) displays, instead of just everything everywhere. You're totally right about the "silent to do list" eg. The repairs pile: fix what you're realistically gonna, then recycle/donate/bin the rest. Your stuff should be serving you and making your life easier, not nagging you. One of the easiest ways to get started is to group like items together. Say you have 50pens dotted around the house, but you will always grab for the same 4 over and over again. Keep those 4 and pare down the rest. Half of them probably don't even work anyway, so they can instantly go! It sounds trivial, but if we do this with all our utensils, stuff our kids have outgrown, DVDs/games/CDs etc. We soon have a tonne of extra breathing space (and maybe a few extra quid from selling pieces). If there's stuff we can donate then we've done a good deed for that kid that needs a new coat, or the skint person who's setting up a home from scratch, then that's a bonus. We were selfishly keeping that stuff we didn't need or use before, but now others can make use of it instead. Environmental issues are one of my values, so it makes sense for me to recycle/donate what I can so other people can use it. I also buy things (eg.clothes) in charity shops rather than new, to support charities and keep useful stuff out of landfills / lessen the demand for factories to churn out more. ... So yes, it IS all about figuring out who you are and the life you want or the impact you want to make. Then you consciously consume things accordingly. 😊

I have made thousands of, what others would say were, failures. From relationships to career paths. However, I now view each and every one of them as a lesson to be learned. Turning the negative feeling that comes with the word ‘failure’ into a positive ’lesson’ has enabled me to grow and level up is so many different ways. 🫶

Love that you did this show. Free thinker is a much better term than tin foil hat wearer and all the other terms that are used to describe those who are open to other ideas and suggestions. Some fascinating information in here. There's always at least 2 sides to every story. I hope that this show helps in some way towards accepting those who choose their own life narrative.

I'm not a tin foil hat wearer but when you do a bit of research and find out that the same four companies own most if not all of the world that started the cogs whirring.. Have a watch and let me know where you stand on all this!

While I'm still not into homeopathy (dilutions/memory etc) I do believe in herbal remedies. When I get a cold for example, I'll cook up a curry with plenty of ginger, turmeric, chillies etc which have amazing healing (decongestant, anti-inflammatory etc) properties... It's a real shame the witch trials killed off most of the wise women, who knew these herbal remedies and healed their villages before. One such remedy - willow bark to ease pain - was turned into what we now know as aspirin, so plant-based medicines are far from just being "woo". There's definitely still a place for herbal remedies (and a properly nutritionally balanced diet) alongside modern (drs) medicine.

Honestly I still have no idea what happiness is but we all search for it because we are told it’s the great aim? It is real?
@HannahRainbow882 ай бұрын
To me it's simply the absence of suffering, and having enough to get by. Others will strive for more beyond that though, and get caught in the time-vs-money rat race to fund a more expensive lifestyle... There's a disproportionate payoff when you satisfy one of Maslow's needs vs getting a higher end version of the item. It may make you happier than the basic item initially, but that soon fizzles out and the end result is still simply that that need got met either way. Just my opinion, feel free to disagree if having nicer things means more to you. 😊

This podcast caught my eye and perhaps the algorithms associated with my own topics of interest drew me to it. It was a great talk and one I feel isn't spoken about enough unfortunately in my opinion. As I draw closer to my 60th it's a big topic of interest especially as I look back on my own experiences and that too of my own folks who will have now been dead 22 years to the day on Monday. My mother to cancer and my father then taking his own life out of grief impacts greatly on our perspective of what important and what isn't. Looking forward to your future podcasts!
