I had 2 mk2 syncros in the early 90s that I did engine conversions on, on my driveway. 1 was to a mk2 8v GTI engine and (made for a great car with plenty of low down torque) the other was a mk2 16v GTI engine. I'm now on my 8th Golf and 4th 4WD Golf after a mk3 VR6 Syncro in the late 90s and now a mk5 TDI 4motion. Always good to find a mk2 syncro video on YT.

@3d_garage_uk7 ай бұрын
It’s a relatively simple swap! 9inch servo with Scirocco 16v Master Cylinder, I got lucky and bought it off a close friend. Future plans are to move it over to the driver’s side for better pedal feel.

Am I right in thinking the 4 same size head lights were only available on the very early mk2 1.6 GTi models? My dad had one TNU347X, pretty sure after that they all had the single headlights which were wider, or the wider outer lights with narrow inner lights? I never see them with all 4 lights the same like our old one was. 👍🏻
@3d_garage_uk8 ай бұрын
You are correct! There are 2 “versions”, UK and US. UK were only available on the very early GTI models, US were standard on the MK2 Scirocco. Only difference is beam pattern; US headlights will fail an MOT in the UK. Brackets are the same, and you can still buy the Hella headlights new. The UK standard lights; wider outer lens does both dipped and main beam, inner square one was just an additional, so you can run them without the inner (and some came like that from the factory).

Hello, I would be interested in doing this swap, what car do I need the parts for? A TDI, a 1.8T? Do you know the 02J gearbox code? People like you are what it takes for the rest of us to learn, thank you
@3d_garage_uk9 ай бұрын
Hi, shift tower works from any 02J gearbox (MK4 Golf, MK1 TT, Audi 8L etc.) doesn’t matter whether it’s petrol or diesel. I didn’t have the gearbox code, but it was from a 1.8t, and I swapped it into my TDI Golf, so proves that any works!

I'd be taking that carpet out completely to be honest, who knows whats hiding under that. Cant be a bad idea to clean the bare floor underneath tbh. Also, I'd avoid washing the engine bay on a non-running car. Lots of things to troubleshoot even without water ingress damage..

@@3d_garage_uk so if you were paying for solar and pwm and cables you would be looking at £150 minimum on a 120 watt panel. I always say if your doing a basic build, insulation ply solar batteries split charger insulation etc at todays prices id allow at least 3k
