My first buy was a diatonic, but I really battle to get the notes the bend. Then I bought a Walter double tremolo in C and G, and it has become my absolute favorite. Easy to play with a really mellow sound. I am still looking for more tremolo harmonicas in different keys, in the 24/48 hole models. But they are scarce where I live.

Hi harmonica friends! Does anyone know of or has experience with a comparison from a players perspective between : 1... the JDR TROCHILUS And 2... the POWER series of harmonicas invented by Brendon Power, like the POWER DRAW, POWER BENDER, and the POWER CHROMATIC, and specially his Lucky13 versions which bring an additional low octive Thanks very much for your feedback Joris

The mouthpiece is way bigger. It is chromatic size mouthpiece. But I want one. I'm just not good at 2nd position on chromatic. This is the answer to all my jazz playing dreams.
@harmonicamastery
@harmonicamastery 25 күн бұрын
I'd say the mouthpiece is smaller than a marine band and some chromatics. I don't think chrom players really do positions, just keys

The mouthpiece on a marine band is definitely not bigger. You are backwords.

Hi there, Ben. I'm receiving my first chromatic harmonica in the next few days and it'll be the 12-hole Lyra in the silver colorway. Judging from the video, it sounds very loud and big. I bet it'll be great for those George Smith songs. I was talking to the sweetest female chromatic harmonica player yesterday. Her name is Mayu Shibuki and she's from Japan. She speaks a little bit of English even though she's not fluent in it, but she is very passionate about her craft and hopes to see the harmonica's popularity flourish internationally. She also sees me as a fellow harmonica playing streamer and she's been nothing but supportive towards me.

I would suggest a metronome for those of us who aren’t masters of the instrument. Helps me. I just thought this will help beginners like myself drill the hole spacing into our muscle memory as well. Try useful stuff

This is a clever way to play permutations of different note groups. Just with the blow and draw notes on holes 1&2 (4 notes) there are 24 possible permutations if you play each note 1 time. This is a great way to create licks….. This was taught to me by my friend and mentor on pedal steel Mr Paul Franklin. He didn’t come up with it but he wisely introduced it in his course and I think it lends itself very nicely to harmonica as well. Just wanted to share that here.

Ben out of all the harps you’ve played, what is your favorite brand and model? What do you think of the newer tuning options some guys have brought to the community (Powerbender, Wilde Rock, etc)? Curious what someone proficient playing over-blows at a high degree thinks of these tunings? Do you use any altered tunings regularly?

What is this? at least get someone on the video that can play the thing. Look I play on all 12 keys and used the old ones for years the new is rubbish by comparison. It is OK but that's it. A few years ago I turned up at a day of Harmonica where this guy was tutoring on it I played dumb and went along for the ride with a friend of mine one of the finest session guitarists in LA USA. I am a Brit. It was terrible and my yank friend couldn't believe the BS.

I’ve just got my first one of these. Ive wanted to try them for a while, and now my kids got me one as a Fathers Day gift. Standard tuning in A. I mainly play Lee Oskars, 1847s and the occasional Marine Band Deluxe. But I couldn’t resist trying the Baby Fat out after seeing this, and a few other reviews. I have some mixed views. If it’s helpful to anyone deciding whether to get one or not, I thought I’d share my honest opinion. I don’t know if these are typical of Baby Fats or if it’s only me that holds these views, and I’m not trying to tell people what to think. My pros and cons are as follows: PROS 1. My friends and family never know what to get me for birthdays etc. they know I play harmonica but they haven’t a clue as to what’s what, what the different keys are or what I like so they don’t get me harmonica stuff at all. I’ve now showed them where to get Baby Fats (Sonny Boys). All they have to do is remember what colour they got me last time and it’s a reasonably priced gift that doesn’t break the bank and guaranteed to put a smile on my face. 2. They cup beautifully. It’s very easy to get a fully effective, well-sealed mute, and a crisp, clear ‘wah’ effect, the like of which I’ve never achieved before. 3. They are very small, which means they are very portable - even more so than other harmonicas. And the lanyard s a great idea if you like to wear your love of the harmonica on your sleeve (or round your neck!) 4. Fun colours and look nice. 5. Very comfortable on the lips. 6. It plays clearly and reasonably well for a lower-priced harmonica, so it’s nice to have something I can have a quick play on when I’m out-and-about without worrying about losing or damaging a really expensive harmonica. CONS 1. The first few times I played it I got a nasty bitter taste in my mouth. Similar to the taste I get off of my EastTop Forerunner, so maybe it’s the paint they use. However, the taste has more-or less gone after a few days. Either it’s worn off, or I’ve got used to it and don’t notice. 2. The protruding reed plate tastes tangy and horrible in my mouth. But this is only a problem when I’m tongue-blocking. It tastes fine when I’m lip-pursing, which is how I mostly play anyway. But I won’t tongue-block on it. It tastes vile! 3. It’s not as loud as my other harmonicas, and the tone isn’t as nice.I’ve seen a few reviews that talk about how loud and fat the sound is on this. I don’t think it is, compared to other harmonicas. However, I will say that it’s got a surprisingly decent tone and volume for its diminutive size and price-bracket. It’s impressive, and certainly punches well above its weight, but I don’t think it’s going to perform as well as many other well-known harmonicas. 4. Holes 1 through to 4 have a habit of occasionally choking if I play too fast, on blow and draw notes. I can remedy this by playing softer but it’s then a real fine line between the note not choking and not having enough air to make any sort of sound. I could probably fix it with a bit of gapping but I don’t know if it’s worth the hassle for what I use it for. 5. Because it’s smaller my hands are closer to my face and sometimes get in the way of my nose when playing! I have to shape my hands differently as well, but I’m sure I’ll get used to that in time. 6. The lack of holes 8-10 limits you to what you can play. To be fair, it’s the instruments USP so I wouldn’t call it a fault. A lot of blues players don’t wander much past hole 6 anyway, and neither do I. But there are a few things I like to play that go up to 8. If you don’t intent to play holes 8-10 on it this isn’t a problem, but if you use those holes a lot you may want to give it a skip. I also think that, for beginners, it’s better to have all ten holes for learning on. 7. It’s fairly responsive, but not as responsive as my favourite harps. 8. Bending isn’t great. It’s very easy to do a full bend, but I find that mine doesn’t really seem to bend well on mid-step bends. They don’t seem to hold well. The bends don’t sound as satisfying as they normally would and they don’t seem to sustain for very long. When all’s said and done, it’s not my favourite harmonica. But I play it every day at the moment. It’s an extremely fun harmonica, and certainly not a toy. It will never be my go-to instrument of choice but it’ll be great to take with me when travelling, camping or at a festival. It’ll be nice to have on a cold, empty train platform when I’m on a long journey. It’s probably great if you’re hanging out with friends in a park, or maybe at the beach. I certainly like it. I certainly want to collect a full set of the standard richter tuned ones. I’m glad I have one. As long as people are aware of what they’re getting beforehand, I’m sure they’ll have a great time playing it. It’s entertaining, looks good, fun to play, easy to travel with and fairly easy on the wallet.
