The fact that this majesty of a performance has barely any views considering the time period that has passed is a borderline criminal.

Beautiful, like every choral work of Brahms. The recording would have benefited from greater aural prominence for the solo parts.

Just heard this on CBC Dec 24, 2022. Being brought up in Lincoln (a cathedral city in England) I imagined the this was from Kings College or similar. Surprised and amazed that it was a choir from Toronto. A beautiful performance, perfectly sung and a lovely change from the awful Christmas jollity from the US. Congrats Elora! Never heard of you before but you made me homesick.

Not exactly top drawer Brahms, but well sung and great to see Noel Edison, so terribly treated by the hysterical, cultural police force in Toronto.

Sorry - I said that because I was born in Surrey - just across the border from Sussex - England - and this carol always told us we were close to Christmas - not that I believe in it, of course. But, it's good we have friends in Canada - who of course, are different from the USA - who claim to have some links to our country - which we reject.

Well they sang this for the 125th Mendelssohn Choir Gala concert at the same venue. This is four years earlier under Noel Edison. Without a doubt this is the more dynamic performance when the TMC had some of their very best singers. The 2019 version lacks the powerful men's voices and seems washed out plus the articulation is simply not there. Noel had a way to bring out the very best with the choir.

I unfortunately must agree : the pronounciation is absolutely shitty and the Intonation is a little big too low.

This brings back wonderful memories. I was an 18-year old 1st Bass in the TMC back in 1971-72, when we sang this at Massey Hall with Elmer Iseler conducting the Choir and TSO. There were 200 of us in the Choir. What an incredible experience for an 18-year old to sing the double chorus in the final piece, Praise the Lord with Harp and Tongue! Thank you Dr. Iseler and Roger Hobbs, Assistant Director!

Hodie Christus natus est hodie Salvator apparuit: hodie in terra canunt Angeli, laetantur Archangeli: hodie exsultant justi, dicentes: Gloria in excelsis Deo, alleluja. Halleluja. Today is Christ born; today the Savior has appeared; today the Angels sing, the Archangels rejoice; today the righteous rejoice, saying: Glory to God in the highest. Alleluia!

The Victoria choral society has recently performed both Mozart s requiem and the full Carmina Burana. Next year we are doing the Missa Solemnis by Beethoven. This is a 150 voice philharmonic choir that sings with energy, passion, sweetness, sometimes even menace. We strive for technical perfection, but our ultimate goal is to bring the audience to their knees and then to their feet

Wonderful. Here you have a 'theme' worthy of your improvisational talents. Your mastery of the instrument at hand is equal to none. Don't get caught up with all those 'educated snobs.' Stay with what you love best. I want to hear more of your works... flying round the world. Please! and thank you. CVD

Something missing every time I watch the TMC live or on video. A lack of power (especially here), spirituality (TMC in 2014, Beethoven Missa Solemnis and the Mozart Requiem). Very metrical and often refined but usually very boring. Reminds me of Helmut Rilling.
