My thoughts on your review: 1. I think you should pull away from the video camera so that your arms arent cut off and the lomography camera is always in view. 2. I had been mulling over whether to buy this camera and you convinced me not to by pointing out things I saw no other reviewer point out. Its strange no one mentioned that the splitzer covers the viewfinder. 3. I hope you get more views because this video did more for my understanding of this camera than all of the others. 4. Can you cover the lomomatic (preferably the more expensive versions)?
@NorbiWhitney3 күн бұрын
@@Carthodon thanks for the in depth comment! Let me try to cover everything. 1. I’ll come back to that later. 2. Yeah I was also very (negatively) surprised to learn that, and not see it mentioned anywhere. Glad I could help you out. 3. Really appreciate the kind words. Feel free to share it 😉 4. I didn’t pick one up yet, as I rarely shoot 110. But I’ll be in Japan in April and I might ask Lomo JP if I can borrow one for a few days (and make a review). Won’t be soon though. 1. Yeah it’s not ideal. My set up is extremely cramped. I’ve got the camera right up against the wall, light above it, and then there is a shelf just above that (and about a foot in front of my head). If I move at all then light hits the shelf and cuts off the top of my head. And if I sit back I’m also away from the table which is really uncomfortable. But it’s a good point, and something I’ll improve when I’m in a different space. Thanks for the comment 🙏🏼

Actually the light box u can use iPad or any monitor with white light source 2. Dslr or mirror less can be done. 3. If macro lens is expensive. Get extension tube with reverse lense mount 4. The film holder a book paint it in black for aesthetic will work 5. Rocket blower or equivalent is a must to clear of dust 6. Tripod is optional but very handy 7. Lightroom or equivalent to reverse the color 8. Enjoy ur roll.

Fascinating to see the difference. I’m excited to see that Harman brought Phoenix out in 120 and the characteristics are more controlled on the larger format. It would be interesting to see how print outs compare to the different scans too. I suspect once again it depends from lab to lab, not least as most labs seem to print from digital these days. I may have to learn c41 printing to satisfy that part of my curiosity…

Excellent! Placing an A4 sheet of good quality glossy printing paper onto the screen and under the negative carrier would save you having to hunt around for things to elevate said negative carrier. Just any sheet of paper won’t do, as close up, you’ll get the pattern of the paper when you stop down - similar to when the screen pattern began to show through with the iPad light source. Final tip: Always shoot RAW and use an independent shutter release; many camera models allow an app on the phone to do this.
@NorbiWhitney24 күн бұрын
Good tips all round. Surprised I didn't mention the last 2, because they are indeed crucial! For the paper, I remember having textures on my first DSLR scans many years ago and couldn't work out why... I was shooting a flash into the back of a sheet of paper with the negs on, and it was indeed the fibers of the paper.

I feel like the dark slide needs some kind of flag sticking off the side of it telling you what half of the view finder you should be framing in. For anyone who intends to modify an existing darkslide by cutting its blade (the metal part) into half, dont do that. If you want a black line to separate the two panoramas, you have to cut away less than half of the slide. Cutting exactly in the middle will produce two images that are touching. Also do not use scissors, it will bent the metal sheet and make it unusable. Use a saw or scratch multiple times until you go completly trough the material.
@NorbiWhitneyАй бұрын
@@MezeiEugen great advice. You’ll also have to remove the security mechanism which makes it impossible to take a photo with the darkslide in. Overall, depending on your diy skills, maybe worth pestering someone else to custom make one for you.

@tim31415Ай бұрын
That is an interesting device. But a 35mm adapter seems less fiddly. And it would work on any MF camera, not just one with a darkslide. 🤔
@NorbiWhitneyАй бұрын
@@tim31415 for cameras without a darkslide, adapters are definitely a great option (as dedicated 35mm film backs are always extortionate), but I wouldn’t say less fiddly. You always have to unload in the dark, as there is no rewind mechanism on MF cameras. Some cameras use a window in the back to see which frame you’re on, so you would need to seal that (for light leaks) and workout how many turns advanced the right amount of frames. You also get less shots on your roll of 35mm. Meanwhile this is a super cheap add on, which becomes very intuitive after a few shots. Neither option is perfect, but it’s great to see this option exists for those who want to try it.

@ lol fair. I should’ve been more clear. On Rolleicord Va and Vb existed a masking + advancing gears kit that allowed to cut in half a standard 6x6 frame to take 24 shot on a single roll on 120. It was called the 24 exposure kit and have the advantages of offering actual mask to frame properly and the appropriate gearing to advance the frame properly.
