South wheal Frances was named after the only child of Francis basset (lord de dunstanville). His monument sits on top carn brea. After the fire much updating was done and in 1898 new pumping engine was fitted. Unusual as it was a inverted compound engine, built by Hawthorn davey and co of Leeds, unfortunately it was scraped when the mine closed. Drone footage shows the site of well👍

It is a beautiful cove but difficult to get to, no pathway down to it. You have to walk from Porthtowan at low tide.
