Good stuff bro! Love that you touched on EQ'ing the effects. Great sound btw.....Atmospheric and clear <3 The biggest things 100% are having that delay tempo sync'd and EQ'ing the the reverbs and delays. I have seen lots of ppl just slap those effects in and blend them with no EQ'ing...leading to mud build up in the mids and bouncing plossives and sibilance....All which take away clarity from the main vocal. Gotta treat those effects like they are the frosting on the cake and not mixed in with the cake batter itself. :)

If I had a $1000 budget for just a mic and interface, I’d say for interface ( Motu M4, UAD VOLT, PRESONUS QUANTUM) MIC (Shure Sm7b not db, it’s very versatile | TML 103 is ok if your voice don’t create the piercing sound when you record into boosted high microphones”) I’d stay away from modulation microphones.

No problem, yeah 👍 the sm7b is the best mic for a home studio, most of us don’t have a treated space for recording.

The biggest issue is people are not using a reference tracks while mixing. With my one on one session with Luca Pretolesi in Vegas the biggest take away was to use reference. (and we can go as far as using Metrics A/B look at the average peaks and mimic those so our sound fits sonically like the reference tracks/drums/bass/vocals/etc) Once I started doing this my mixes became better! All these tips and tricks stuff is great but when our foundation sucks no tip and tricks will ever help us.

Well I’d say before compression, removing the low rumble aka putting a high pass filter before the compressor makes the compressor work less and more accurate in my opinion.

Good stuff Bro. When you say you record at -18 db, are you peaking at -18db? Or are you averaging around -18db and peaking at -12db?

Good question i average -18 sometimes it jumps aka peaks at -12 but those are the best range for me. Anything higher I feel like you risk getting distortion depending on your equipment
