The most abused drug in the world indicates this scene is simplistic and insulting. Alcohol is cheap, easy to get for anyone past a certain age, and kills more people in the world than all the other "dangerous drugs" combined. Autopsies in Hollywood show more deaths from liver failure than all other causes. People who can find work might use expensive, luxury drugs, but the people who can't get by drink themselves to death -- just like every other town in the world. The most brutal anti-drug movie ever made -- THE LOST WEEKEND -- was made in 1945. It got the Best Actor award for Ray Milland as the alcoholic who falls off the wagon. Prohibition had been gone over a decade. People were still dealing with the consequences of re-legalization. It was not pretty.

This is an isolated audio from the 5.1 Bluray movie with center channels muted. This track was never released by Marco Beltrami. I can only isolate the audio this much with the tools I have so far. This is just raw. You can edit and cut this yourself ; Here's the extended full length raw with alot of background noise which need professional audio editing : kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYrQeqSra96npZY I will try other tools next weekend but I suspect they will muffle the sound too much

This scene is straight up war on drugs propaganda. Morality tales such as these, portraying addiction as some sort of lifestyle choice, logical conclusion of an irresponsible hedonism, completely ignore what we now know about the connection between addiction and trauma and trauma-related changes in brain chemistry. And of course, we have known for ages how disproportionately it affects people depending on their socioeconomic status. But yeah - you wanted to party, this is what you get and this is how it ends when you legalize drugs, everyone becomes a mindless slave under the reign of Kurt Russell...
@John-zh1ud Жыл бұрын
The point of the movie was to be careful what you wish for because you might just get it. Along the way, he's presented with a bunch of towns and folks that are in a hell of their own making as they try to pursue whatever it is they believe make them happy - yet they're a slave to it. And while your argument states that we have little to no agency in life, the movie argues we do. What seems to be the case in my life is that the agency we have varies by time and circumstance and there's no practical benefit in believing we don't have agency at all. What seems to be a useful line of thinking while navigating through life is the Serenity prayer... serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. In my experience, it seems like the point of life itself is to reprogram our meat computer to move beyond chasing the next dopamine hit and to learn to exercise the agency we do have to benefit others.

As someone that did plenty of drugs in my life and has spent a considerable amount of time around addicts of all types: the cold hard truth is that in many cases it is simply weak hedonistic people who engage in things repeatedly and foolishly think there wont be a price to pay. I'm certainly not an advocate for drug war nonsense but your kid gloves approach is equally worthless and destructive. Another hard truth: many people that do drugs are horrible people that don't deserve to be given endless chances to get it together. I was fortunate that I figured these things out before I did too much irreparable damage to my life and my body...but I still carry some scars and I think that is fair enough. I also never hurt anyone other than myself which the majority of addicts both admitted and in denial cannot say.
@TerryBowles-qm3qc Жыл бұрын
@@John-zh1ud Well said, I agree. I think the OP's ideology is corrosive specifically because it trains people to believe they have no responsibility for what they do which also paralyzes any possibility of growth. As unpalatable as it is in this age of "do as thou wilt" I've found tough love and being tough on oneself to be a far better path for genuine betterment.
@andrewlipton664 Жыл бұрын
Not the worst portrayal to me. With opiods I'd argue that there are some people that are more inclined to use given bad events in their past, but with a lot of other drugs I think it is a lifestyle choice that comes from the first conscious decision to try an addictive substance. Most people think too much of their ability to manage their use of substances and find themselves in a hole like in this movie. I think the main theme here is that people who are addicted have so little control over their mental state that they are willing to work 40 hours just to fuel their drug use. Again I think opiods affect brain chemistry a little differently but with pretty much any other kind of drug you can name this is a pretty decent representation of how addiction starts and carries on through someone's life.
@merewriter234311 ай бұрын
Unless the first time you did drugs someone held you down and forced them into your veins, then it was always a choice. If you have sex with someone you know has an STD and you catch it it's still a disease but you had the choice and you made it. If you never do drugs you never risk addiction to them. Disease or not, trauma and excuses or not are all irrelevant you weren't addicted when you chose to start them, and unless you were mentally feeble you knew you risked addiction and you did it anyway.

@tribeofdan36535 ай бұрын
@@RealFitchEmersonthat is very old news my friend and does not relate to anything in the Bible. It will be on the right hand or the forehead and a mark, name or number of his name. If you look up the concordance for the work “mark” in Revelation 13:16, it can mean a scratch or etching and then the original meaning of the word “right”it means right side. This relates more to the Covid jabs than the barcode. Although I’m not fully sold on that idea. I didn’t take it nonetheless. Not just for that reason but many others that clearly indicated it was nefarious from the outset.

I would argue on terminology - rather than "get high" I'd say "some people just want to have responsibility-free fun". What if this reckless fun was abundant so you didn't have to work for it? Then you get this... Doesn't have to be drugs. A dopamine kick, or some kind of other artificial hapiness, can be anything if you think about it. It's not the kicker, but the person seeking the kick and their approach that's the cause of their downfall. Brilliant scene. I truly believe the Sheriff's character (portrayed by brilliant as always Kurt Russell) is the embodiement of the Devil - manipulative, charming, ruthless, tempting, cynical and concerned only about... increasing his labour pool.
