Wasn't expecting to randomly find a channel dedicated to Katamari randomly in 2025 but thanks KZbin recommended I'm more of a casual player for those games so that just looks insane to me, good job x)

Thank you! I actually do have a couple ideas for non-katamari videos, but not very many, and I can't guarantee that I will ever bother to make them. Katamari is really the only game I play where I spend time doing things that feel like it's worth uploading.

This was actually really cool! I must confess to watching at 2x speed. But it's neat that you found something else out and ran with it. I wasn't aware that you could see stars vs. background in REROLL. That's the thing I always found frustrating in WLK: the inability to know if you were really getting anywhere.

How to Brake Roll?
@swimminginoblivion5186
@swimminginoblivion5186 Ай бұрын
@modusbee9092 The brake roll is when you are moving forwards and then tilt both joysticks backwards. When you do that, the katamari loses speed. If you continue holding the sticks backward, then the katamari will soon come to a stop and then start going backward. In an example, if you are moving too fast after a dash or going down a slope and want to slow down, then you tilt the joysticks in the direction opposite of the way you are moving, and you should lose speed. If you are moving very slowly, then the brake roll won't work. Hopefully I explained it ok...

OMG!!! What a vast improvement over your previous videos! You're _so close_ to being able to get vending machines and other large items! And all without [super secret item]. :P This is your best method yet for getting the 3 signs and trash can where the phones used to be. I could tell you about mine, or what [super secret item] is, but wouldn't it be better to just show you? I'll be (finally) uploading my video from last year very soon!

@ThumbsOfSteel74 What, you've been hiding a world record video from us all this time?? I honestly got slightly burnt out on this stage, because I reached the point where I could grind the entire day and not beat my score. Thank you, I shall look forward to seeing your strategies for this stage!

Spectacular run with a triumphant finish! It looks like a lot of your route ideas paid off. If I tried this again, I would definitely borrow heavily from this route. Bulldozer + all mushrooms is awesome.

@swimminginoblivion5186 8 ай бұрын
Thank you! You tend to be better than me, so I think you could definitely get bulldozer with practice. Ali and Jobnsoso get items from the upper town area in two parts of the run, while I spend time clearing the upper town all at once. Their runs are faster than mine, so saving some upper town items for later may be worth looking into

This is incredible! I'm all for playing levels in new and unintended ways, but you've really outdone yourself this time. If you ever decided to upload the full video, you could always go old-school and post it in 5 parts (perhaps with links in the description to the other parts). You may have seen some of our early videos posted this way, back when KZbin disallowed anything over 10 minutes.

For ways of sharing the entire run, I was considering doing a livestream where I watch through each part of the video. But that might not work, because my laptop is slightly outdated and not very powerful, and I never streamed before. I would likely wait to do it just in case I get a better score if I try again

For the quick turn, I think you have to push in both joysticks at once. Kinda like pushing both sticks downwards as if they were buttons (not tilting them both backwards). Hopefully that helps

Excellent! I had similar results trying this. I know I was able to get 0_07 a few times, but not the elusive 6! I saw all of those empty charts on the speedrun site and thought, "How hard could it be?" Pretty hard, it turns out. I'd like to see you try some of the other lesser-known challenges over there. Levels most people don't think of for speed.

There really are a lot of empty charts on speedrun.com aren’t there? I am curious about some of them, although I’m really not that great of a speedrunner, so my scores won’t be too impressive as of yet. So I may attempt a couple of them, but no promises lol

Ok, im wondering if getting 0:05 is possible… There’s a new 0:06 run that has incredible speed that I don’t remember seeing in other WR runs in the stage (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn3CnoeOl7x2j6sfeature=shared). If their run had ended in the spot with the three ornament things (where my run and other’s end), then I wonder if it could have been a 0:05. Or maybe I’m wrong / missing something and am just being silly lol

@swimminginoblivion5186 My first inclination was to say it's probably not possible. But then I compared that video to yours. Both of you were back on the red floor at 11cm2mm. They were at 12cm9mm at the same place you finished. So maybe if they got another pencil or something before the 3 balls? But...a not-very-thorough analysis leads me to believe that it was just barely a 6. Could ending where you did really allow you to finish in less than 6 seconds? I dunno, but it might be worth a shot! Anyway, thanks for letting me know about that run. It was very quick, indeed!

Yay, congrats on taking WR! I couldn't say for certain if 893m is doable or not. It's only 2 or 3cm away now, and with how goofy this stage can be it might just be possible with some luck. But there's no guarantee that the size multiplier hits 0 just before 893 for example

Congratulations! That was so much fun to watch! I wasn't sure what you would do after the fall from the wall with the small trees. Another nail-biting moment for me was when you went for that fence behind the giant flags at over 3m50cm! I thought you might get stuck and lose items. But that ending! I was like, "uh-oh" when you first got to the tiller. What you managed to pull off after that was simply unbelievable.
@swimminginoblivion5186
@swimminginoblivion5186 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Im pretty sure i did get stuck on one of the flags at 3m50cm, and i may have lost a signpost i think. I didnt go for the No Trespassing fence there at 2m90cm bc i felt it would waste too much time, but then i the end i felt i could get it with time left over to get statues and tiller still. The last 20 seconds realistically should not have worked out, lol. There were definitely smarter alternatives there i could have gone for (like getting more fish/penguins in the lake), although im not sure if that could have gotten me to 72cm at the end. I also wonder if i could tweak the route used after falling off the wall at the trees to get some more small objects. Theres some sand castles right where i fell to, and there are some TVs on top of a nearby building. Maybe if i didnt fall at fences and went on to roll up gas pumps, then roll over house with tvs on it, fall onto the sand castles below, then go through vending machines to continue the route, that could turn out well? Just an idea

What a great run! Just inches away from the Weather Station (3m62cm6mm), which would have put you over 70cm for sure. My advice would be to go back to matthew69's original route. It may be somewhat easier to follow than my version. The point is to ignore anything that's unnecessary for the Tiller. After that, you may find you have the confidence and experience to add little detours. I'm just saying, this is great but I know you can do better. Plus it's nice to see someone playing this level for diameter. Most people stick to the Make a Star levels.
@swimminginoblivion5186
@swimminginoblivion5186 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah, with a proper grind i probably have the potential to get a better run. That is, assuming i have the time of course, lol. There are a couple of larger objects that arent obtained in matthew's video that i really want to go for, like the green fences in front of the trees and the no trespassing sign that is in front of the tunnel through the mountain (although maybe that ones too out of the way for me to worry with right now). Oddly enough, I feel like I enjoy diameter runs in constellation stages more than in MaS stages. I guess theres also not really much else to do in them after getting 100% of whatever object the stage is based on. I have been thinking that it would be fun to try getting 100% of constellation objects in a stage as fast as possible though. I think the only videos of that on youtube are 199 maidens in 5:29 and 70 swans in 3:11, so it would be fun to try out all the others
@ThumbsOfSteel74
@ThumbsOfSteel74 Жыл бұрын
Nah, this is a great effort! So you forgot the route a bit. That just means there's room for improvement. I'm sure you can do it! There are plenty of empty or near-empty charts on the speedrun site. Mostly because a lot of speedrunners are focused on any% full game runs. So AFAP levels don't get as much attention. That's one of the things I like about Thaane (besides the insane speed): He plays all the levels. I didn't bother going back and clipping out "records" from my streams because I saw them as practice. Plus I was mostly going on (badly faded) memories of old routes. Anyway, we've been in a katamari video desert for a while now. More is always welcome, and you can always come back to them later.
@swimminginoblivion5186
@swimminginoblivion5186 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Although your streamed attempts were practice, they are still some of the best thats out there right now lol. Afap4 is one of the funner time attack stages for me, so maybe i could come back and improve on it at some point. There are some other stages that interest me that people havent done yet, like 50-item or cowbear diameter, but those are all stages that require a massive grind that its hard to find time for. I could potentially upload more if people really wish to see katamari content, but they wouldnt be terribly interesting to many in the face of the crazy WRs people have gotten lately

Hurray! I didn't find this boring at all. I've thought about making this one. I'm pretty sure nobody's made it before you in Reroll. For some reason, I had forgotten the Present is essential for max diameter in this stage. I'm pretty sure most of that rng info is new. I enjoyed the start because everyone else heads straight down the hill. Also, I liked that sideways-ish boosting you did around the perimeter.
@swimminginoblivion5186
@swimminginoblivion5186 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yea, i tried this strategy without the present and ended on 2mm, so i think its required. Also, when going to the side at the start instead of rolling down the hill, i can look at all of the random object spots and see if i need to restart right away. On Katamari on the Web, someone posted a link to a spreadsheet with a bunch of stuff about objects and levels that someone datamined i think, and a list of random object tables is in there as well. Its where i found out exactly which objects are random and what the chances of getting the ones you need are

Congratulations! This was very satisfying to watch! You found a good technique, and then you had the patience and determination to finish the job. I like how you figured out normal-speed rolling was best near the exit and around the middle, but dashing works well for the blues on the perimeter. I completely forgot that I had achieved this score, mostly because I neglected to put up most of my KF scores on Cyberscore for some reason. Thanks for reminding me that I put up scores in most categories at KotW. I wish I had made more KF videos. At least then we might know how many objects I rolled up in this level. By the way, I have no idea if 53cm8mm is possible. There are a few really stubborn pieces that I'm not sure anyone has rolled up. All of these games keep track of diameter to more decimal places than they show. Example: You may have had 53cm7.2mm or 53cm7.9mm, but both would register as 53cm7mm. So...there's no way to know if you were 15-16 blues away or 1-2. 🙂
@swimminginoblivion5186
@swimminginoblivion5186 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Actually, yesterday I tried this again, making completely sure that i got absolutely everything and I ended with 1696 objects, only to still have 7mm. I didnt see anything that i didnt get. So unless theres something i missed, im thinking that the only way 8mm is possible is if KF has a goofy size multiplier, similar to WLK, making 8mm magically possible only some of the time. In this video that i found (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGTManmJd8SHnNU), it looks like katamari damacy reroll has 9 extra digits in the diameter that arent seen usually (like 88cm8mm is actually 88.8199900000). Although in the video, the last five digits stay as 0 the entire time. I have no clue how it works other then the very little that is seen in that video. Based on the maths that i did earlier, the only way i the three people i mentioned in description could have gotten those sizes at those object counts was if i just barely reached 7mm. So i figured my size would be more around 53cm7.3 or so.
