Looks like the rod is upside down 😂. Spinning reel on a conventional rod?

That rod was being used like it was a tool to lever the fish out of the ocean. You had no concern of the stress you were loading onto the blank. Go learn how to fish.

Ugly Stik Big Water & GX2, Berkley Big Game, Shimano Terez rods are the most reliable, durable rods I have found. EVEN WHEN YOU HIGH STICK THEM! No VALUABLE, RELIABLE AND DURABLE rod would break under fishing use. FIBERGLASS RODS ARE THE ANSWER. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR RELIABLE, DURABLE, AFFORDABLE FISHING RODS; RODS THAT ARE FIBERGLASS OR HAVE FIBERGLASS IN THE TIP (like Ugly Stik) ARE YOUR ANSWER TO YOUR PROBLEMS. OL TRUSTY FIBERGLASS HAS PROVEN THE TEST OF TIME FOR DECADES… AND FOR A GOOD REASON. I HAVE BEEN THERE MAN. IM 32 BEEN FISHING SINCE 9-10 YEARS OLD. EVERY ROD I HAVE EVER SNAPPED, SNAPPED AT THE TIP ON A HARD CAST BECAUSE THAT ROD WAS MADE OF GRAPHITE. ALL MY BERKLEY BIG GAME RODS ARE MADE OF TRUSTY FIBERGLASS AND I HAVE HAD MINE REEL IN FISH (Big, medium and small) FOR OVER 12 YEARS! Fiberglass rods are your answer my friend.

That's a casting rod not a spinning. A lot of rods are made to bend one way while fighting a fish, probably what happened here

I just came from BassProShop in Foxborough Massachusetts, I was looking to add a 8ft conventional rod to my collection. I was disappointed with the rods that they had. All rods were china made and made of very cheap material. Does anybody has any suggestions please ??

I fish a lot for GT and the first thing i do before i head out is inspecting the rod, reel and line just to be sure. You could easily get a little tiny fracture on the rod if you are not storing it properly. Just saying. But i think your technique might have something to do with it.

If you high stick on big fish, and you use your hand as the drag on a spinning reel then I can only imagine that the rod probably has been banged up and finally let go during the fight. I know high sticking is bad practice but I fight Sturgeon that weigh more than me, with over a pound of lead in a river with a ton of current and I high stick to get a lot of line in. The trick is having your drag set adequately... and not using your hand as the drag!

@@jkhysteria3547 You can also high stick all you want if your drag is loose enough. I high stick all the time on fish bigger than me but only when the fish isn't running and I bow the tip immediately if I feel the fish pull. I think the guy in the video was pulling too hard with the rod high sticked and the rod probably had a nick in the blank (weak spot from being dropped)

You already know he was high sticking. What could have he done when the fish was that close? he could of level off his rod, by pointing the rod tip lower, palm the reel to add tension to the line and walk backwards bringing the fish onto the shore. when the fish is stuck on shore, grab the line to keep tension and grab your catch.

I’ve owned the Penn Battalion ll surf conventional 11”rod for 2 years and never had any problems… I load the shit out my rods before lifting my thumb off the spool…and have hooked some big stripers… never in my life have I ever snapped a surf rod hauling in any big fish… …Although, not every rod is going to be perfect… to say the least… this guy was high sticking and trying to retrieve as much line as possible with each pump which was too much and too high for the rod to endure…! Loading the shit out of your rod for the cast is much different because the-rod bend recovers quickly … but he was holding that bend for longer periods and high sticking at the same time… will definitely break the rod …. No matter who made it and how much you paid for it…..
