i hope its alright for me to say so, but in all this talk about outfits, i really love yours in the 80s run of costumes! One outfit that does get overlooked is the Seventh Doctor's 'New Adventures' outfit, often shown on the covers. Still with his hat, umbrella, and shoes, his shirt would vary between light blue or white, he took to wearing a red, green or beige tie, and his suit was more like a linen suit jacket and trousers, with a smiley 'Have a Nice Day' face badge on his left lapel, and sometimes the silk scarf would reemerge again. If you google 'Doctor Who New Adventures' and add the titles 'Sky Pirates', 'The Also People', and "Strange England" you can see how the outfit looks. Would be interesting to hear your opinions, and I hope you have a lovely day!

26:10 Ive always found Nixons line at the end of that episode rather strange as it implies that Nixon thought that Canton was kicked out the FBI for wanting to marry a black woman. Which would make no sense for Nixon to think that as interracial marriage was legal in 1969 when the episode is set. The only reasons an fbi agent would be fired for wanting to marry someone in 1969 is if they were gay or if they wanted to marry a criminal or spy or some crazy stuff. So idk why Nixon would assume its the race.

The story that William Hartnell wouldn’t work with gay men is nonsense‼️ A few years before he became the Doctor he starred in a film called carry on sergeant,the first of 31 films with the carry on name. Over 70% of the cast were gay‼️🏳️🌈

I've got a couple of tips that I use when I play. The aspect ratio changes after Capaldi's era so if you have an image with black bars at the top and bottom, it's from a 13, 14 or 15 episode. Also, you can type seasons/episodes if you forget the name. For example, type S13 for anything from Flux or S10E02 for Smile. I spend way too much time playing this game.

Same here. The message is basically "trying to murder lots of people is bad". But instead people stretch semantics to be all "Look, the Doctor is being all pro bad working conditions!!" And you know most of those people happily use Amazon on the regular anyway. 😐

I had the sense that the moment in Rosa when the TARDIS crew had to reinforce the racist status quo in order to preserve that key moment in the civil rights movement was making a point about the nature of allyship and what it means to be subject to racism vs an onlooker. I got the sense it was quite a subtle allegorical point. But that's just my interpretation. I don't think it was failing to be a sophistocated antiracist message like you suggest.
@T0M4T0LVR5 ай бұрын
i know this isn't the focus of the video, but since you mentioned the family of blood story, can i just say: i think maybe my least favorite moment is the doctor asking the racist nurse if she wanted to come with him at the end. i truly believe martha would've called him out on it if she had been present for the conversation, and maybe even would have left him. and the way he just casually thanked her when everything was over like "oh btw thank you for taking care of me :)" after everything she had to endure for him. ten is my second favorite doctor and martha's one of my favorite companions, but season 3 is always so disheartening to rewatch because it's full of moments like that where she's being disrespected not only by the doctor, but by the narrative itself. not to mention that they pair her with mickey (rose's ex, after a full season of her being compared to rose) out of nowhere, despite her already having a previously established partner. just sucky. but it must be said that despite all that, she still felt more like a real character than any of thirteen's companions, even yaz who we got 3 whole seasons with. i think it goes to show that though RTD is definetely not perfect, his grasp on writing characters (including side and one-off characters) is much, much stronger than chibnall's.

Wonderful video!!! I agree that you should make more Doctor Who content! Maybe more in depth studies of some of the characters you mentioned? A video about River or Jack? Also, I'd like to see your opinions about the Fifteenth Doctor and his season. I'll have to check your other videos.

I fucking love doctor who like yes you go my gender fluid bisexual aroacespec alien baddie (goodie). I also have Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly multiple personality disorder) which affects my queer identity, all my “personalities” are literally different people with different queer identity and as a huge lifelong DW fan and I absolutely love and relate to the fact that the doctors different incarnations seem to have different queer identities too, for example some of them being attracted to women, some men exclusively, some ace coded, etc. My disability and identity in that also intersects with my gender and queer identity, somewhat from my DID and somewhat from other things I won’t go into but I’d love to see a video about the disability representation in Doctor who as it’s a mixed bag. It’s also worth noting that Torchwood has a LOT of queer rep, some of it a mixed bag though

great video! i have a few small queer(ish) doctor who facts you didn't mention first of all, the character of Alpha Centauri from the third doctor serials The Curse Of Peladon and The Monster Of Peladon. They're described as a "hermaphrodite hexapod", though they're referred to with masculine pronouns in the show. But in later audio dramas they're referred to with they/them pronouns the eighth doctor's extended universe companion Fitz was implied to be in love with the doctor, and this was later confirmed by writer Stephen Cole. in issue 590 of Doctor Who Magazine, Sophie Aldred is interviewed about Ace's iconic jacket, she says she got the idea from someone in a gay club. quote: "One night I went to a gay club, and there was a guy standing at the bar wearing a black flight jacket with a Blue Peter badge on it - so I thought of him." Also, because you were looking for pre-internet fanworks: a while ago, i found an ao3 account by someone transcribing their grandma's old handwritten doctor who fanfiction. there are doctor/master fics from the 80's. I'm not entirely sure if these are actually that old or if it's just someone trying to get attention, but if it is real it would be pretty cool. their username is castrovalvangrandma. warning: most of them are very explicit and quite wild

Also the conversation between the doctor and bill where he says "she was my man crush (talking about the master) and i'm pretty sure i was a man back then too and then he says that timelords are too evolved to care about something like gender and then bill says "but you still call yourselves timelords" it was a very funny exchange 🤣

As an asexual person I always thought that Matt Smiths doctor was definitely ace. From his funny fulfilling stereotypes to his notable lack of strong romantic relationships, to his repulsion towards Amy and Rory when they kiss, he fit the bill perfectly. Also not all asexual people are repulsed by certain aspects associated with physical romance, for example hugging or kissing

Looking back on you talking about exploring gender identity and lack of equity in the past is REALLY interesting now that Ncuti gatwas series has dropped. Something like the doctor changing gender is MASSIVE! And it was only really mentioned in a throw away line in the witch trials episode, when the king refused to believe the doctor was the leader. But much like gender identity, racial identity is another massive thing that effects the doctor now, without him realising at first (as shown in the episode Dot and Bubble, which really showed that he’s lost his ability to save people because of his skin colour… something that was never a question or problem!) so I do think it was a missed opportunity, having seen a realisation of change in identity episode, that they didn’t write a hard hitting one for Jody.

Anyone can change gender. Humans can change gender, starting off identifying female and then identifying as either male or non-binary. The Master, The General and The Doctor, all changed sex so could be seen to be Transsexual, rather than gender fluid, and while The Doctor and Yaz's relationship would be same sex but is consistent with the Doctor's attractions throughout previous incarnations. I think the reason LGBT+ people are attracted to Doctor Who as a show is because, as you say it has a group of misfits, running around time and space. Beta males like myself are attracted for similar reasons as well as the Doctot being a different kind of role model when compared to other heroic figures.

One of my favourite type of characters is what I like to call "The Ace Troll." They are Ace (possibly Aro too) and they have a troll streak. That 4th Doctor line "You're a beautiful woman... probably" is just such an iconic Ace Troll. They're certainly alot more fun than the grumpy patronizing stereotype or the naive ignorant character we often get.
