i visited the nearby peaks today but the main crater is currently out of reach (level 2 warning). I had no idea there was a ropeway once upon a time. I didnt see any remnants of it (or may be i wasnt looking for it). The ropeway station is now renamed to Aso Sanjo terminal.

Here's the real top tip, trust me. See the Grand Place. That will take you not more than an hour, then just head out of Brussels. Go to Bruges, or Antwerp or whatever. Staying the night would be a mistake. Forget the Atomium and the Mannekin Pis, absolutely not worth it.
