There are a few nice neighborhoods on the edge of the city but for the most part people in Berks county avoid Reading city. Most of the pubs and restaurants are in the boroughs of West Reading and Wyomissing. There are some nice communities just outside the city so the area isn't bad but the city is. Train service to Philly is planned in 5 to 7 years. We will see.

Thanks for sharing. Public transportation would be huge for the city like many others. Hopefully Reading can get back on it's feet like it's neighbor West Reading! Until then, we can only help our neighbors and do our best to help where we can .

I don't agree with "wudder" which I believe is more Delco than Philly. In Philly, "wauder" with accent on 1st syllable is more accurate. By the way, you even said "wauder" later in the video.

You’re insane about Fairhill.( down the way) as we would call it. That’s where we used to buy weed when I was younger and much more naive. It’s a war zone down there. Fairhill and luzerne was a drive through block where there was usually a traffic jam from all the cars lined up around the block on a Friday or Saturday night to get weed.. I don’t care how cheap those boarded up dilapidated houses are!!!! You couldn’t pay me to own one, not in that neighborhood at least. Unfortunately philthadelphia as I call it is getting worse and worse. Even in the northeast like Castor and Cottman is starting to resemble Frankford. In other words pretty much uninhabitable for civilized people at least. Horrible cesspool of a city filled with savage animals. So glad I got the hell out. The only thing I still like about Philly are my Eagles 🦅, Phillies, Sixers and Flyers. They should call it the city of brotherly hate honestly.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Fact is there are some with priorities that are different than yours. On a 30 year loan, a 1% buy down is worth so, so much. Fees could never be worse.
@LivinginPhiladelphia
@LivinginPhiladelphia Ай бұрын
Great point and remember, A down payment is different than a buydown. Down payment you are decreasing the total amount of the loan (ex. If you are putting 50% down on a $600k house then your loan would be for $300k). A buydown you pay extra money up front for a lower interest rate but the loan amount doesn't change (ex You pay an additional $12000 to the lender to get a 7% interest rate instead of a 7.5% interest rate).

My family is originally from the Far Northeast (mostly Irish ancestry, but also some French), my great-grandmother was actually the treasurer for the Philadelphia GOP when they still mostly ran the city. We live in Bucks County now, and out here we call it a hoagie, but just like with Delco, nobody gets it wit whiz, they don't even have whiz as an option in any of the local hoagie shops here. I've spent a lot of time in the city and also occasionally visit a cousin who still lives in the Far Northeast, and I've noticed that once you get north of Philadelphia county the "wooder" pronunciation fades away. I still pronounce it that way when hanging out with friends from the city, but at home it's become muddled into something closer to how they say it in Central Jersey. I'm curious, yous guys say Delco and Montco, but does Bucks have an endearing title or do you just call it the county where all the Republicans ran off to? lol
@LivinginPhiladelphia
@LivinginPhiladelphia Ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting. It is interesting to hear about the differences in accents and slang. As for Whiz, I agree it's a Philly thing typically on a cheese steak but if you wanted it on a hoagie... sure why not lol.

I don't think I've heard a shortened Bucks County. Might just be Bucks. Sounds better than BucksCo. Sounds like a hunting equipment company ;)
@hellsunicorn

@@LivinginPhiladelphia Yeah, we generally call it cheese steaks, though the Jersey influence causes some of us up here to add hoagie at the end or use it interchangeably with the former. Nobody gets whiz on a cheese steak around here either, whether it’s the mom & pop shops or the chains, only thing we put whiz on is crackers. lol I think I remember one of my friends referring to it as Bucks. It does get pretty rural when you get further north in the county, so maybe the hunting equipment company label suits us.
